Phocine distemper virus (PDV) caused thousands of deaths among harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) from the North Sea in 1988 and 2002. To examine the effects of different factors on the pathology of phocine distemper, we performed necropsies and laboratory analyses on 369 harbor seals that stranded along the Dutch coast during the 2002 PDV epidemic. Diagnostic tests for morbillivirus infection indicated a differential temporal presence of morbillivirus in lung and brain. Approximately one-third of all cases of sick leave for health care workers are related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) originating in the neck, shoulders, and back. A cross-sectional multicenter survey based on the Nordic Questionnaire for Analysis of Musculoskeletal Symptoms investigated the nature and scope of MSDs among Dutch OR personnel. Infectious multiresistant pulmonary tuberculosis was diagnosed in a 24-year-old woman from an Eastern European country who resided in the Netherlands illegally. Her chest X-ray showed extensive cavitating lesions in both lungs.
