Two cases of fatal cryptococcosis are described, one of Cryptococcus neoformans infection in a Gilbert's potoroo (Potorous gilbertii) and one of Cryptococcus gattii infection in a long-nosed potoroo (Potorous tridactylus). The diagnoses were confirmed by culture and specific immunohistochemistry, respectively. A 35-year-old woman with necrosis of the complete nasal tract due to nasal cocaine abuse is presented. Reconstruction was performed using a free radial forearm flap and rib cartilage grafts. Pre-existing skin of the nose was used for outer lining. The reconstruction led to an excellent functional and aesthetic result.

The scope of this article is directed toward strategic planning and surgical treatment of the postoperative short nose deformity. Emphasis is placed on controlled repositioning of the central compartment of the nose (tip and columella), followed by moving the nostrils back into a more natural position with the use of autologous grafting techniques. The overall goal is to achieve the desired esthetic transformation while maximizing nasal function with good long-term results.

A rare case of enterobius vermicularis pin-worm is reported in the nose. An 11-year-old girl presented with the vague symptoms of crawling sensation in the nose for few weeks, who had received treatment for allergic rhinitis. The nasal secretions were examined and confirmed the diagnosis of pinworm infection and treated by albendazole.

OBJECTIVE: To discuss and sum up the methods and experience of aesthetic reconstruction of tissue defects in external nose.
METHOD: By respective repair based on aesthetic subunits principle of the nose proposed by Yotsuyanagi et al, 47 tissue defects in external nose were reconstructed using random flap of nasolabial groove, local rhomboid flap, the insular skin flap of forehead,the insular skin flap of nasolabial groove with retrograde facial artery and forearm flap with pedicle etc.
RESULT: Satisfactory resconstructive effects were obtained in all cases.

Inverting papilloma is a very uncommon neoplasm; however, its ability to destroy bone, recur after incomplete removal, and undergo malignant transformation makes it an important disease to recognize. Because early diagnosis and prompt treatment offer high rates of cure, it is important to be able to differentiate inverting papilloma from more benign nasal growths such as allergic nasal polyps. This article will summarize the etiology, location, signs, symptoms, potential for malignancy, and current treatment strategies for inverting papilloma.

In a 75-year-old man who had experienced a serious nosebleed, as a consequence of collapsing, the nose was packed bilaterally. An evaluation of the dyspnoeic complaints revealed abnormal blood gas values which indicated hypoxemia. Ventilation perfusion scintigraphy and a lung function test did not reveal any abnormalities. A detailed study of the nose was undertaken in 40 leprosy patients with different classifications of leprosy and different durations of disease at two hospitals in Brazil. 410 patients with malformations of the external ear or nasal cavity were examined. Basing on this evidence, clinical and diagnostic aspects of agenesias, hypogenesias, hypergenesia, dysgenesia, persistence and dystopias of the nose and intranasal structures are analyzed. Both severe and "minor" anomalies are considered. Endoscopic diagnosis of the malformations is described.

The approach to nasal bone classic corrective rhinoplasty is an almost-blind technique, where the results depends on feeling by the surgeon's hand. To overcome these drawbacks, endoscopic-assisted corrective rhinoplasty and septoplasty were performed for 16 cases of deviated noses between January 1995 and May 1997.
