[Application of Trauma-Informed Care in a Patient With Schizophrenia and Childhood Trauma].

This article presents a case study on the application of trauma-informed care on a male patient with schizophrenia and a history of childhood trauma. The nursing process was designed using the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration framework. For this case study, the "4R" core assumptions were transposed into five actionable principles (safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, empowerment, and choice), which guided all of the provided interventions. From July 14 to August 7, 2025, the nursing care focused on promoting psychological and emotional safety, facilitating the co-re

Are sex differences in the outcome of peritoneal dialysis explained by nurse assistance? A cohort study with data from the Registre de Dialyse Péritonéale de Langue Française.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to evaluate sex differences in peritoneal dialysis (PD) outcomes and to explore direct and indirect effects of nurse-assisted PD on outcomes. METHODS: This was a retrospective study using data from the Registre de Dialyse Péritonéale de Langue Française of incident PD patients between 2005 and 2016. Cox proportional hazards modelling was used to analyse transfer to haemodialysis (HD), death, PD failure, peritonitis and renal transplantation. Mediation analyses with a counterfactual approach were carried out to evaluate natural direct and indirect effects of sex on transfe

Healthcare resources and differences in kidney disease-related mortality in Italy: a longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Significant differences in kidney disease-related mortality persist among Italian regions, even after adjusting for age and education level, suggesting a role of contextual factors. The study aimed to assess whether these differences are attributable to the availability of economic and structural resources for healthcare. METHODS: Retrospective longitudinal cohort study conducted on the Italian population recorded in the 2011 Census and followed up to 2019. Deaths from kidney diseases were retrieved by record linkage with the Causes of Death Register. Regional information on age-a

Detailed analysis of the male reproductive system in a potential bio-indicator species - The marine invertebrate Galeolaria caespitosa (Polychaeta: Serpulidae).

For the first time, this study has systemically investigated the male reproductive system in a sessile broadcast-spawning marine invertebrate, Galeolaria caespitosa (Polychaeta: Serpulidae), which has significant potential as a bio-indicator species of coastal marine pollution. The abdomen of G. caespitosa was divided by intersegmental septa into over 80 trunk segments. Each segment served as a germinal chamber with a C-shaped gonadal arrangement consisting of several distinct compartments: a seminiferous epithelium (SE) compartment located in the centre of the chamber, with each of its two en

Perioperative nursing management in video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement for severe acute pancreatitis with infected peripancreatic necrosis: a retrospective single-center case series of 41 patients.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) complicated by infected peripancreatic necrosis (IPN) represents a life-threatening condition. Video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement (VARD) is a preferred minimally invasive surgical approach for managing this disease; however, detailed reports on the perioperative nursing care for this procedure remain limited. This study summarizes the nursing experience and management strategies in 41 patients who underwent VARD at our institution. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, single-center, uncontrolled case series of 41 consecutive

Neurogenic Shock: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Neurogenic shock is a life-threatening emergency associated with spinal cord injuries. Early cervical spine immobilization to reduce the risk of neurogenic shock is imperative. In addition, early recognition and treatment of neurogenic shock are essential to prevent hypoperfusion-related injuries and death. CASE PRESENTATION: This case outlines a 65-year-old male who experienced a cervical spine fracture after a motorcycle crash. The patient received stabilizing treatment by a flight crew consisting of both a registered nurse and paramedic. After assessment and stabilization, he w

[Analysis of the risk of backache in the occupational environment].

In a cross-sectional, and one year retrospective study low back pain risk was analysed in a sample of 1812 subjects stratified by five professions: nurses, industrial workers, truck drivers, construction workers and white collar workers. Data were collected by occupational physicians during annual systematic examinations. Relative risks were significantly higher in nurses and industrial worker occupations than in the control group of white collar employees. Multivariate analysis points out that heavy or light handling, bad postures, non-sitting jobs and exposure to vibration or inclemency are

[ASSESSMENT OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES OF NURSES ON THE SKIN CONDITION AND TREATMENT OF DAMAGE].

Practical experience and numerous studies have shown that, after finishing their studies nursing graduates are not sure in their independent assessment and treatment of wounds. It appears that nursing education lacks narrowly specialized educational content in this area, practical skills and connection between graduates and experts who follow the standards and guidelines in the area of wound healing. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge through tests and attitudes of nurses/nursing graduates on the condition of the skin and damage treatment. In addition, the study was also aimed a

Exploring undergraduate nursing students' preparation to care for children and their families in Australia: a scoping review.

OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to identify and map the breadth of evidence available that describes the preparation of preregistration nursing students to provide care to infants, children, young people, and their families in an Australian context. INTRODUCTION: Nursing graduates in Australia are expected to deliver safe and competent care to children and families across diverse health care settings. However, pediatric nursing education is commonly embedded within integrated lifespan curricula, with limited access to dedicated pediatric units or clinical placements. This lack of structu

Characteristics of patient and staff victims of assaults in community residences by previously nonviolent psychiatric inpatients.

There currently exists a large body of empirical research examining patient assaults in inpatient psychiatric facilities. These studies have focused primarily on staff and have found younger, male mental health workers with lower levels of formal education and experience as well as nurses involved in restraint procedures to be most at risk. However, despite the increased utilization of community-based services, little attention has been directed toward patient assaults on patients and staff in community settings, particularly residential services. This study began to respond to this need by ex

Addressing gaps in intimate partner violence training in nursing: a case-based pedagogical intervention.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) refers to violence (physical, sexual, economic or psychological) inflicted by a spouse or male partner and constitutes a global public health crisis. Health services are a critical entry point for identifying IPV cases. Nurses and healthcare providers must recognize IPV signs, as their role is pivotal in early detection and intervention. However, healthcare professionals and nursing students report a lack of knowledge and training to address it effectively; and adequate training on IPV is still not guaranteed on nursing programs, as often lack adequa
