In order to explore the necessity of community rehabilitation, we conducted a questionnaire survey of patients with a communication disorder who had finished speech therapy at our hospital during the period of April 1998 to November 2001. Blood pressure and headache frequency were evaluated in normotensive male and female cocaine-dependent patients (N=43) participating in a placebo-controlled, double-blind trial of amlodipine for the treatment of cocaine dependence. Amlodipine produced a significant reduction in both systolic (p=0.04) and diastolic (p=0.01) blood pressures without producing dizziness or faintness. OBJECTIVE: Psychiatric symptoms may be associated with increased asthma morbidity and mortality. However, no investigations have identified syndromal psychiatric diagnoses in asthma patients using current diagnostic criteria or examined treatment received for mental illness.

The authors studied 200 consecutive outpatients with symptoms due to venous disease of the lower limbs. All the patients underwent anamnestic, clinical and instrumental evaluation (c.w. Doppler velocimetry and strain-gauge plethysmography). The results of this study showed that some anamnestic and clinical data are significantly related to venous disease detected by instrumental techniques. The superficial and deep vein hypertension were, instead, correlated to oral contraceptive use.

A total of 99 female patients consecutively admitted to an adult psychiatric outpatient clinic were surveyed about their history of physical and sexual abuse. A retrospective analysis of the performance and value of fine needle aspiration of symptomatic breast masses in a special outpatient "breast clinic" within a district general hospital was carried out. The causative organisms and susceptibility factors were compared in two groups of individuals with tinea pedis, coal miners (234) and dermatological outpatients (244). Midazolam, a new water-soluble benzodiazepine, with an elimination half-life of approximately 2 h, was compared with thiopentone for induction of general anaesthesia in a randomized, single-blind study. The patients were 60 healthy women undergoing legal abortion as outpatients. Midazolam provided smooth and reliable induction of anaesthesia with few side-effects. In a sample of middle class individuals seeking martial and sexual counseling, 30% had diagnosable psychiatric illness, including 14% who had depressions at the time of interview.
