Two anaesthetic managements for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were compared in 64 patients in order to investigate some perioperative complications: 1) bowel distension during surgery. 2) recovery from anaesthesia. 3) post-surgery incidence of emesis and pain. We present five fetuses at 15-17 weeks' gestation with a sonographic diagnosis of intestinal obstruction. Dilation of the intestine was the presenting sonographic finding in fetuses with a volvulus and/or anal atresia. Two of the fetuses also had other abnormalities. Intestinal peristalsis may be observed in early pregnancy as transient dilation of intestinal segments. Sonographers are cautioned about a false-positive diagnosis of intestinal obstruction in such cases.

Transvaginal ultrasound evaluation of the fetal digestive system was performed on 1000 fetuses at 5 to 14 weeks' gestation. The normal physiologic process of the midgut herniation into the cord as well as the embryonal connection between the yolk sac and fetus were detected. Peristalsis of the stomach was noted as early as 14 weeks' gestation. Because gastric emptying is probably improper at this age, gastric pseudomasses were visualized in some cases.

A case of CREST syndrome (calcinosis, Raynaud's phenomenon, esophageal hypomotility, sclerodactyly, and telangiectasia) that initially showed Raynaud's phenomenon, sclerodactyly and polyarthralgias, 3 years later completing the process, associated to sicca syndrome, is presented. The esophageal affectation showed a loss of peristalsis of the inferior 2/3, as well as hypotonia of the gastroesophageal sphincter. We comment the prognostic relationship between CREST syndrome and the centromeric region antibodies.

INTRODUCTION: The uterus exhibits dynamic peristaltic activity across the menstrual cycle, playing a critical role in reproductive processes such as sperm transport and embryo implantation. However, current imaging methods to assess this activity provide little information and are limited by subjectivity and lack of sensitivity. A recent pilot study has shown the potential of intracavitary electrohysterography (IC-EHG) to study peristalsis in the uterine fundus. This study aimed to generalize previous results, compare peristalsis in other uterine regions, and study more peristaltic features.

Three cases of isolated inverted Meckel's diverticulum are described. In two cases an initial pathological diagnosis of small bowel lipoma was suggested. In a third case central fat was demonstrated on CT and peristalsis of the intraluminal polypoid mass was observed during US examination. In all three cases small bowel enema examination demonstrated the lesion. Correlation of the clinical, radiological and pathological features is emphasised, as this will allow the correct diagnosis.

SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: This case highlights the consequences of colon interposition on phonation and swallowing. Findings in this patient included laryngopharyngeal reflux, vocal fold paralysis, poor esophageal peristalsis, failed bolus transfers, and others. The mechanical and functional differences between the colon and the esophagus can impact bolus transfer, reflux, and phonation. Further research is required to identify the mechanisms by which colon interposition can impact voice and swallowing.
