Either folic or folinic acid enhanced the antimetastatic activity of recombinant murine interferon beta (rMulFN beta) toward highly metastatic colon carcinoma 26 (Co 26Lu). We retrospectively reviewed 70 cases of perforated appendicitis in children to examine the relationship between postoperative antibiotic selection and culture results from the peritoneal cavity. Initial antibiotic therapy chosen for the children consisted of a three-drug combination in 54 (77%) patients. Peritoneal cultures were performed in 58 (83%) patients. The presence of bile in the peritoneal cavity and obstructive jaundice without liver derangement in the neonatal period is pathognomonic of spontaneous perforation of the bile-ducts. These features can be demonstrated preoperatively with ultrasound, nuclide imaging and liver function tests, without recourse to paracentesis, and the risk of contaminating the bile ascites. Furthermore, the presence of isotope in the general peritoneal cavity will exclude the diagnosis of a choledochal cyst so that jejunum should not be anastamosed to the 'false capsule' of a spontaneous perforation.

Seven children with intraperitoneal ascariasis are reported. One of them had two episodes. There were four instances of free worms in the peritoneal cavity, whereas others had peritoneal abscesses containing round worms.
