Systematic evidence mapping informs a class-based approach to assessing personal care products and pubertal timing.

BACKGROUND: Personal care products (PCPs) contain many different compounds and are a source of exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), including phthalates and phenols. Early-life exposure to EDCs commonly found in PCPs has been linked to earlier onset of puberty. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the human and animal evidence on the association between puberty-related outcomes and exposure to PCPs and their chemical constituents and, if there is sufficient evidence, identify groups of chemicals and outcomes to support a systematic review for a class-based hazard or risk assessment. Integrating geriatric assessment and genetic profiling to personalize therapy selection in older adults with acute myeloid leukemia.

INTRODUCTION: Survival benefit associated with intensive over low-intensity chemotherapy in older adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is controversial. Geriatric assessment and genetic risk categories correlate with survival following intensive chemotherapy in older adults with AML and can guide treatment selection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a single-center trial, we integrated both geriatric assessment, and genetic risk categories to personalize selection of intensive versus low-intensity chemotherapy in older adults ≥60 years with AML (NCT03226418). In the present report, we demonstrat

The autobiographical narrative as a damage assessment means: injuries to profound subjective sensitivities - personalization and objectivization of medicolegal relevance.

The article aims to outline and expound upon the impairing aspects of an acoustic lesion involving deafness, analyzing the disabling effects on all aspects of the daily life of the injured person, even in the absence of permanent psychic damage that can be nosographically categorized. Such a form of additional damage, which can hardly be quantified, is certainly immaterial and perhaps cannot even be qualified as biological; although it still falls within the realm of psychic functioning, it must be adequately framed by the forensic doctor, in order to enable the Judge to issue a coherently mot

Electronic Health Diary Campaigns to Complement Longitudinal Assessments in Persons With Multiple Sclerosis: Nested Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Electronic health diaries hold promise in complementing standardized surveys in prospective health studies but are fraught with numerous methodological challenges. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to investigate participant characteristics and other factors associated with response to an electronic health diary campaign in persons with multiple sclerosis, identify recurrent topics in free-text diary entries, and assess the added value of structured diary entries with regard to current symptoms and medication intake when compared with survey-collected information. METHODS: Data were col

Measurement specificity with modern methods: Using dimensions, facets, and items from personality assessments to predict performance.

The use of personality measures to predict work-related outcomes has been of great interest over the past several decades. The present study used machine learning (ML) to examine the optimal level in the personality hierarchy to use in developing predictive algorithms. This issue was examined in a sample of incumbent police officers (N = 1,043) who completed a multifaceted personality measure and were rated on their job performance. Criterion-related validity was investigated as a function of level of operationalization in the personality hierarchy (dimensions, facets, items), scoring method (

Personalized Risk Assessment for Prevention and Early Detection of Breast Cancer: Integration and Implementation (PERSPECTIVE I&I).

Early detection of breast cancer through screening reduces breast cancer mortality. The benefits of screening must also be considered within the context of potential harms (e.g., false positives, overdiagnosis). Furthermore, while breast cancer risk is highly variable within the population, most screening programs use age to determine eligibility. A risk-based approach is expected to improve the benefit-harm ratio of breast cancer screening programs. The PERSPECTIVE I&I (Personalized Risk Assessment for Prevention and Early Detection of Breast Cancer: Integration and Implementation) project se

Impact of a structured older persons health assessment on herpes zoster vaccine uptake in Australian primary care.

Vaccine uptake in adult immunisation programs is often suboptimal. We aimed to assess the impact of the structured older persons health assessment (health assessment) on herpes zoster (zoster) vaccine uptake in Australia. We used national general practice electronic medical records (MedicineInsight) of encounters with patients aged 75-79 years because these patients were age-eligible for both free zoster vaccines and health assessments in the two years following the addition of zoster vaccine to the national immunisation program (Nov 2016-Dec 2018). Due to repeated encounters, we used generali

Calcium scoring: a personalized probability assessment predicts the need for additional or alternative testing to coronary CT angiography.

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether anthropometrics, clinical risk factors, and coronary artery calcium score (CACS) can predict the need of further testing after coronary CT angiography (CTA) due to non-diagnostic image quality and/or the presence of significant stenosis. METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent coronary CTA due to suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) were included in our retrospective analysis. We used multivariate logistic regression and receiver operating characteristics analysis containing anthropometric factors: body mass index, heart rate, and rhythm irregularity (model

Initial assessment and management of respiratory infections in persons with spinal cord injuries and disorders in the COVID-19 era.

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, emergency department (ED) personnel will face a higher caseload, including those with special medical needs such as persons living with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D). Individuals with SCI/D who develop COVID-19 are at higher risk for rapid decompensation and development of acute respiratory failure during respiratory infections due to the combination of chronic respiratory muscle paralysis and autonomic dysregulation causing neurogenic restrictive/obstructive lung disease and chronic immune dysfunction. Often, acute respiratory infections will lea

Seroprevalence and risk assessment of viral hepatitis E infection in a group of exposed persons from Republic of Moldova.

INTRODUCTION: Viral hepatitis E is considered to be an important issue for public health in developing countries. The aim of the present study is to evaluate morbidity and risk factors in occupationally exposed groups such as people working on sausage production. METHODOLOGY: Seroprevalence of HEV (hepatitis E virus) and risk factors to infection were determined in a cross-sectional study of two groups of populations: people working on sausage production (n = 70) and persons without occupational exposure (people working in the textile industry n = 70) in Moldova, a country without reported ca

ASSESSMENT ON THE INTERCHANGEABILITY OF PERSONAL EFFECTIVE DOSE ALGORITHMS IN FLUOROSCOPY-GUIDED INTERVENTIONS USING BLAND-ALTMAN ANALYSIS.

Long exposure to radiation from fluoroscopy-guided interventions (FGIs) can be detrimental to both patients and radiologists. The effective doses received by the interventional radiology staff after performing 230 FGIs in a year were assessed by using double dosimetry and five various algorithms. The Shapiro-Wilk test revealed normally-distributed data (p < 0.01), while the significant correlation coefficients between the effective doses ranged between 0.88 and 1.00. As for the Bland-Altman analysis, both Niklason and Boetticher algorithms strongly supported the absence of statistical signific

Assessment of working environment and personal dosimeter-wearing compliance of industrial radiographers based on chromosome aberration frequencies.

Industrial radiographers are exposed to relatively higher doses of radiation than other radiation-exposed workers in South Korea. The objective of our study was to investigate the impact of specific occupational conditions on chromosome aberration frequency and evaluate dosimeter-wearing compliance of industrial radiographers in Korea. We studied individual and occupational characteristics of 120 industrial radiographers working in South Korea and evaluated the frequency of dicentrics and translocations in chromosomes to estimate radiation exposure. The association between working conditions a

Congestive Heart Failure Risk Assessment Monitoring through Internet of things and mobile Personal Health Systems.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) occurs when the heart cannot provide the necessary cardiac output for the metabolic needs of the human body. The most prominent symptoms are increased venous pressure, abnormal heart and breathing rate, tiredness and leg swelling. Most important pathogenesis influence are: age, gender, high blood pressure, alcohol and smoking, sedentary lifestyle and diet, genetic predisposition and family history, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Common causes are considered to be valvular heart disease, coronary heart disease and hypertension. CHF diagnosis can be achieved throug

Systematic Assessment of Linkage to Care for Persons with HIV Released from Corrections Facilities Using Existing Datasets.

Populations in corrections continue to have high prevalence of HIV. Expanded testing and treatment programs allow persons to be identified and stabilized on treatment while incarcerated. However, these gains and frequently lost on reentry. Systemic frameworks are needed to monitor linkage to care to guide programs supporting linkage to care. To assess the adequacy of linkage to care on reentry, incarceration data from the National Corrections Reporting Program and data from the Ryan White Services Report from 2010 to 2012 were linked using an encrypted client identification (eUCI). Social network assessment in community-dwelling older persons: results from a study of three European populations.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In clinical practice, the status of living alone is often used as the only measure describing an older person's social network. We evaluated whether additional use of a brief social network measure provides relevant additional information in relation to social support and engagement. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey of 6982 community- dwelling adults 65 years or older living in London, UK; Hamburg, Germany; and Solothurn, Switzerland. Data were collected using the self-administered multidimensional Health Risk Appraisal Questionnaire. Multivariate models were used to analy
