In ascendant varicophlebitis, the authors suggest not only crossectomy, but also radical removal of the dilated part of the great saphenous vein and of all thrombosed and non-thrombosed varicose veins in one session. Among 1217 retrograde phlebographies of left-sided idiopathic varicoceles 66 patients presented because of persistence or recurrence of varicocele, 34 of them after operation and 32 after sclerotherapy. Fourty-four patients with deep venous thrombosis of the leg diagnosed by phlebography and not more than five days old were treated with streptokinase. Oral anticoagulant therapy was started at the same time. Complete lysis of thrombi was obtained in 6 cases and partial one in 25 cases. Lysis of proximal thrombi was better than that of distal ones. The incidence of thrombosis during one year in a defined population of 263 144 city inhabitants has been studied with a new method based upon acute phlebography of all patients with the slightest symptoms of the disease.
