Masseter muscle thickness, jaw functional limitation, oral behaviors, and psychosocial factors in chronic non-specific neck pain: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic non-specific neck pain (CNSNP) and temporomandibular disorders are frequently comorbid disorders. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate masseter muscle thickness (MMT) via ultrasonography in women with/without CNSNP and compare oral behaviors, jaw function, and psychosocial factors. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 30 female CNSNP patients (March-April 2025, secondary care clinic) and 30 healthy controls. Self-reported clenching/grinding was recorded. Assessments included the Neck Disability Index (NDI), ultrasonographic MMT at rest/maximum contraction, and jaw opening (pain

The relationship between biological and psychosocial risk factors and resting-state functional connectivity in 2-month-old Bangladeshi infants: A feasibility and pilot study.

Childhood poverty has been associated with structural and functional alterations in the developing brain. However, poverty does not alter brain development directly, but acts through associated biological or psychosocial risk factors (e.g. malnutrition, family conflict). Yet few studies have investigated risk factors in the context of infant neurodevelopment, and none have done so in low-resource settings such as Bangladesh, where children are exposed to multiple, severe biological and psychosocial hazards. In this feasibility and pilot study, usable resting-state fMRI data were acquired in in

Subcutaneous Mastectomy Improves Satisfaction with Body and Psychosocial Function in Trans Men: Findings of a Cross-Sectional Study Using the BODY-Q Chest Module.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of gender-confirming surgery is best evaluated on the basis of patient-reported outcomes. This is the first explorative study using the BODY-Q chest module, administered in trans men before and after mastectomy. METHODS: Between October of 2016 and May of 2017, trans men were recruited to participate in a cross-sectional study. Data collection included standardized anamnesis and examination, screening questions on depression/anxiety, and seven BODY-Q scales, including new scales measuring satisfaction of the chest and nipples. Mean scores for preoperative and pos

Temporomandibular Disorder Symptoms in Prospective Orthodontic Patients: Correlations With Treatment Needs, Psychosocial Distress, Jaw Function and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life.

BACKGROUND: Emerging research suggests that reduced Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) in orthodontic patients may be more closely linked to Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) than malocclusion severity. OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the burden and severity of TMD symptoms in prospective orthodontic patients, examined their relationships with malocclusion severity, somatic symptoms, psychological distress, jaw function and OHRQoL, and identified factors associated with high jaw functional limitation (JFL) and low OHRQoL. METHODS: Participants completed a survey covering demograph

Effect of Telerehabilitation-Based Music Therapy and Motor Imagery on Pain, Autonomic Function, and Psychosocial Outcomes in People With Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Controlled Trial Protocol.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Chronic pain affects approximately 63% of people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS), contributing to fatigue, depression, anxiety, poor sleep, reduced quality of life, and cognitive decline. Within the biopsychosocial model, music therapy has emerged as a promising intervention to address these complex symptoms. This study aims to examine the effects of heart rate-synchronized music therapy combined with motor imagery practice on pain, autonomic and cognitive functions, and psychosocial outcomes in patients with pwMS. We hypothesize that the combined intervention will lead

Effects of a Synchronous Telehealth Exercise Program on Clinical, Functional, and Psychosocial Outcomes in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (RED Study): A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) are at increased cardiovascular risk. Although exercise is an important strategy for reducing cardiometabolic risk, accessible and scalable intervention delivery strategies, such as synchronous telehealth programs, remain underexplored. This randomized clinical trial (RED Study; NCT05362071) investigated the effects of a 12-week synchronous telehealth exercise program on clinical, functional, and psychosocial outcomes in adults with T2D. Thirty-three participants (55.8 ± 10.1 years) were randomized to an intervention group (INT; n = 17), which pe

Impact of extent of lung disease on nutritional, physiological, functional, and psychosocial outcomes of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with post-tuberculosis sequelae: A prospective study from Western India.

BACKGROUND: Post-tuberculosis lung disease (PTLD) is increasingly recognized as a major cause of chronic respiratory morbidity in tuberculosis (TB) survivors. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves functional outcomes in PTLD, but the influence of disease extent on response to rehabilitation is underexplored, particularly in high-burden settings such as India. METHODS: This prospective interventional study was conducted at our center, over 6 months. Sixty patients with radiologically confirmed post-tuberculosis sequelae were enrolled and stratified into mild ( n = 27), moderate ( n = 24), and

Evaluation of the Comparative Efficacy of Aquatherapy Versus Conventional Physiotherapy on Motor Function and Psychosocial Well-Being in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) undergoing chemotherapy have limited access to rehabilitation support. While rehabilitation on the basis of physiotherapy has been found to enhance psychosocial well-being and motor performance, a viable substitute for this can be aquatherapy. However, no trials have currently evaluated the effectiveness of aquatherapy in this population. OBJECTIVE: We aim to evaluate the comparative efficacy of aquatherapy versus conventional physiotherapy on the motor function and psychosocial well-being of children with ALL. METHODS: We will con

Adverse life events and psychosocial stressors in functional neurological disorder: a retrospective cohort and case-control study using a large international electronic health record database.

BACKGROUND: Adverse life events and other stressors were central to historical 'Freudian' models of functional neurological disorder (FND), which have been increasingly replaced by more nuanced biopsychosocial models. Studies of the aetiological relevance of stressors have been limited by small sample sizes. METHODS: Retrospective cohort analyses using a large international electronic health records network (TriNetX), including ICD-10 codes, were performed. Between 2015 and 2025, 147,595 individuals were diagnosed with FND. The rates of adverse life events and psychosocial stressors were comp
