Cetuximab versus nimotuzumab for the treatment of advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A network meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: We conducted a network meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of cetuximab and nimotuzumab in the treatment of advance … oticed in 1- and 2-year overall survival (OS) rate and certain toxicities such as myelosuppression, radiodermatitis, mucositis and gastrointestinal reactions. Although nimotuzumab increased the 3-year OS rate, compared with cetuximab, this result needs to be interpreted cautiously because of the studies' heterogeneity. CONCLUSION: Even though we didn't find sign …

[Pseudoscleroderma and sclerodermiform states].

Pseudo-scleroderma should not be confused with true scleroderma, the prognosis of which is unpredictable and often serious. Progressive acro … odermitis after vitamin K injection, basal cell carcinoma, necrobiosis lipoidica, vitiligo, chronic radiodermatitis, cutaneous lymphatic invasion. Scleroderma-like changes after drug injection (vitamin B12, progestin), anetoderma barely resemble morphea guttata.

Delphi consensus-based recommendations of tools and outcomes for the assessment of radiation dermatitis severity.

INTRODUCTION: Acute radiation dermatitis (ARD) is a common side effect experienced during radiation therapy (RT) for cancer. Published clinical trials for ARD use a myriad of assessment tools and outcomes to measure ARD severity, which limits the comparability of clinical trial results. Our study utilized a modified Delphi consensus survey to gather expert opinions on commonly used tools for ARD severity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty experts were invited to participate in a two-round Delphi consensus survey. Of these, 80 % (24/30) completed the first round; and 92 % (22/24) completed the sec

Radiation Recall Dermatitis Following Capivasertib Administration.

Radiation recall dermatitis is a known but rare adverse effect that is characterized by the development of dermatitis in the region of prior irradiated tissue triggered by exposure to a systemic agent. Capivasertib is a small-molecule inhibitor targeting the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B pathway recently approved in locally advanced and metastatic breast cancer; however, the safety of its use in the setting of palliative radiation is currently unclear. Here, we report a case of radiation recall dermatitis in a patient with metastatic breast cancer on capivasertib with history

Efficacy and safety of epigallocatechin-3-gallate in treatment acute severe dermatitis in patients with cancer receiving radiotherapy: a phase I clinical trial.

To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) solution treating the acute severe dermatitis in patients receiving radiotherapy. This phase I research enrolled patients with thoracic cancer receiving radiotherapy at Shandong Cancer Hospital and Institute in Shandong, China. EGCG solution was sprayed to the radiation field when grade III radiation-induced dermatitis (RID) first appearance. EGCG concentration escalated from 660 to 2574 μmol/L using modified-Fibonacci dose-escalation. RID and related symptoms were followed up every day. Between March 2021 and Novemb

Instruments and scales for the evaluation of acute radiation dermatitis: A systematic review.

Various assessment instruments have been proposed to document and evaluate radiation dermatitis. In this systematic review, we identified nineteen instruments or scales for the evaluation of radiation dermatitis and performed a critical review of the signs and symptoms included in each of them. Of those scales, only two have been validated. There is a need to revise the currently used instruments so to improve their capability to measure all relevant aspects of radiation dermatitis and their severity. In addition, it would be important to add the patients' view of their conditions and how they

Clinical Effect of Moisturized Skin Care on Radiation Dermatitis of Head and Neck Cancer.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Radiation therapy (RT) for head and neck cancer may cause severe radiation dermatitis (RD) resulting in RT interruption and affecting disease control. A few studies address skin moisture changes during RT for head and neck cancer. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of moisturized skin care (MSC) on severity of RD. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study includes newly diagnosed head and neck cancer patients undergoing RT. Participants were divided into MSC group and routine skin care (RSC) group based on patient's preferred decision. Skin moisture in the four quadrant

Topical Prevention of Radiation Dermatitis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients: A Network Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Head and neck cancer is a major malignancy worldwide. The treatment strategy for head and neck cancer usually involves radiotherapy. The main side effect of radiotherapy is radiation dermatitis. Thus, determining the most effective topical regimen for the prevention of radiation dermatitis in head and neck cancer patients is a critical issue. PATIENTS AND METHODS: PRISMA-NMA guidelines were used in this network meta-analysis. We included only randomized control trials. A random effects model was used. Heterogeneity was evaluated by I2 and Cochran's Q tests. RESULTS: We includ

Review of the Terminology Describing Ionizing Radiation-Induced Skin Injury: A Case for Standardization.

Ionizing radiation causes injury to the skin that produces a complex clinical presentation that is managed by various paradigms without clear standards. The situation is further complicated by the fact that clinicians and researchers often use different terms and billing codes to describe the spectrum of cutaneous injury. There is, however, general agreement between the two most commonly-used diagnostic scales, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, and in their use to describe skin injury following radiation therapy. These scales are typic

Galanin contributes to ultraviolet irradiation-induced inflammation in human skin.

Exposure of the skin to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes various consequences such as inflammation and photoageing. Galanin is an active neuropeptide expressed widely in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues including the skin. Galanin promotes or inhibits inflammation in a context-dependent manner, but its role in UV irradiation-induced responses in human skin was still unknown. UV irradiation induced a substantial expression of galanin in primary epidermal keratinocytes in vitro and in human epidermis in vivo. Galanin knock-down by siRNA transfection markedly inhibited UV irra

[Side effects of therapy with flashlamps and lasers].

Dermatologic flashlamp and laser therapy involves photochemical, thermal, photoablative, photoacoustic and phtoodisruptive effects, depending on the wave length, energy density and pulse duration. All of these effects when properly employed can lead to optimal dermatologic and cosmetic results. They also carry a high risk for side effects and damage when not properly used. The risk of side effects depends greatly on the training and experience of the treating physician. Both a solid dermatologic training in order to correctly diagnosis skin changes and knowledge of laser principles are require

[Chemical peel--current possibilities and limits].

The increased exposure to UV-radiation as well as the longer life expectation are the main reasons for photo-aging of the skin, which becomes more and more important in dermatology. Chemical peels represent potent agents, which meets not only the aesthetic aspect of skin rejuvenation, but also the medical aspects of skin aging. It allows to remove skin pigmentations, to smooth fine wrinkles and to improve the skin texture, and it can successfully be used in the therapy of actinic keratosis as well. The selection of the most suitable peeling-procedure is crucial for a successful treatment. It m
