This study aimed to validate a handheld capillary blood lactate analyzer (Lactate Express) against a reference (EKF Biosen C-Line) and assess its impact on lactate thresholds. In this paper, we present an operational conceptualisation of external validity for in vitro studies, to support the development of the forthcoming INVITES-EX tool.
