Pediatric Myeloid Sarcoma of the Testes Treated With Surgery and Adjuvant Radiation Therapy.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor of immature granulocytic cells and is most often associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Myeloid sarcomas can occur anywhere in the body but are seldom present in the testicles, especially in the pediatric population. The treatment of MS, especially testicular myeloid sarcoma (TMS) is not well defined in the literature and the role of radiation therapy in the treatment of TMS is even less well defined. In this case report, we discuss the treatment for TMS in a pediatric patient, review the literature, and discuss the role of radiation t

Chameleonic Chloroma: A Case of Myeloid Sarcoma Presenting as a Pancreatic Head Mass.

We report a case of pancreatic myeloid sarcoma (MS), an extremely rare manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), in a 35-year-old male who presented with epigastric pain and watery stools. Initial diagnostic testing was inconclusive; however, following an extensive evaluation, endoscopic biopsies suggested AML, which was confirmed by a bone marrow biopsy. Given that few cases are documented in the literature, pancreatic MS without a preexisting hematologic malignancy poses a significant diagnostic challenge.

Myeloid sarcoma of the skull base: A case report and systematic literature review.

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS), or chloroma, is a rare extramedullary malignant tumor that consists of undifferentiated granulocytic cells, and it is most commonly associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Intracranial MS accounts for 0.4% of MS cases, and involvement of the skull base and visual dysfunction is rarely reported. However, the optimal treatment and response to treatment of skull base MS in the presence of visual symptoms is unknown. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 30-year-old male with a history of AML presented with rapidly progressive vision loss and a sellar and parasellar mass wit

Characteristics and prognosis of pediatric myeloid sarcoma in the cytogenetic context of t(8;21).

The prognosis of myeloid sarcoma (MS) is controversial. Many reports indicated that orbital-MS has a good prognosis and is closely related to t(8;21), but the prognostic role of MS in pediatric t(8;21) AML is unclear. We retrospectively analyzed data from 127 patients with pediatric t(8;21) AML diagnosed between January 2010 and June 2018. We compared patients with (n = 30) and without MS (n = 97). The median follow-up time was 52.6 months. The proportion of t(8;21) AML patients with MS was 23.6%. Males were more likely to have MS than females. The complete remission rate after the first cours

Isolated myeloid sarcoma in the pancreas and orbit: A case report and review of literature.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a type of extramedullary solid haematological tumour. Myeloid sarcoma is classified into two types based on whether onset of the disease is complicated by haematologic diseases: extramedullary infiltration of leukaemia (leukaemic MS) and isolated myeloid sarcoma. The incidence of isolated myeloid sarcoma is low. In particular, isolated myeloid sarcoma involving the pancreas is extremely rare and prone to misdiagnosis. This case report describes the long and eventful diagnostic process of a case of myeloid sarcoma involving the pancreas and orbit. Due to a lack of typica

Myeloid sarcoma and adenocarcinoma of the large bowel as collision tumors: a case report.

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare tumor composed of myeloid cells, localized in an extramedullary site, which may be associated with a concurrent myeloid neoplasm involving the bone marrow, although such an association is not required. Most patients present with acute myeloid leukemia and their prognosis is poor. We describe the case of a 76-year old woman with an adenocarcinoma of the right colon infiltrating the subserosa synchronous with a myeloid sarcoma at the same site; one pericolic lymph node was infiltrated by both tumors. The peculiarities of this case are the clinical presentation (as an ac

Myeloid sarcoma presenting as an isolated nodule in a patient with acute myelogenous leukemia.

We report a case of an elderly female in remission from acute myelogenous leukemia that presented with a nonhealing enlarging asymptomatic nodule on her right thigh. A wide excision of the nodule and histological examination revealed myeloid sarcoma without evidence or overlap of leukemia cutis, which had been suspected from nodules that had developed early in the course of the disease. The patient subsequently underwent radiation therapy to the area with sustained clearance.

Multiple intracranial tuberculomas mimicking granulocytic sarcomas in acute myeloid leukemia.

The diagnosis of incracranial tuberculoma in immune-compromised hosts is often difficult because conventional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of tuberculoma reveals various findings and neurologic symptoms are not typical. Here, we report a case of a 54-yr old man with multiple intracranial tuberculoma who was treated for acute myeloid leukemia. He complained of right-side paresthesia after the third consolidation chemotherapy without leukemic relapse and fever. MR imaging of the brain showed multiple ring-enhanced lesions in the cerebrum, cerebellar hemisphere, and pons. The lesions appeared

Myeloid sarcoma of both kidneys, the brain, and multiple bones in a nonleukemic child.

A myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor consisting of primitive granulocytic precursor cells. Although most such tumors have been reported in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia, MS is rarely recognized as an isolated tumor without any evidence of leukemia. However, in such cases, the initial diagnosis of MS can be difficult, so initial misdiagnosis rates of up to 75% have been reported. This report describes an unusual case of MS in a 3-year 5-month-old girl presenting as bilateral renal enlargements, and brain masses, with multiple bone involvements, but no hematological abnor

Myeloid Sarcoma of the Prostatic Tissue Diagnosed on 18F-FDG PET/CT in Treated Case of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that often presents during remission or disease relapse. The most common site of relapse being, however, many rare sites has been reported in the existing literature. We are herewith presenting the case of a 27-year-old patient of AML who showed an unusual site of relapse on fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan.

Isolated myeloid sarcoma of the temporal bone: As the first clinical manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia in a patient of down's syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Leukemia is the most common malignancy of childhood but myeloid sarcoma is a rare presentation of underlying leukemic disorder. Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare tumor composed of proliferation of myeloid precursors at extramedullary sites. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report an unusual case of myeloid sarcoma involving the temporal bone in a young male child who presented with a large mass involving the left temporal region. This lesion was the initial presentation which led to further diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia in our case. This case report brings awareness to the diverse ex

Myeloid sarcoma of the small intestine in a patient without overt acute myeloid leukaemia: a challenging diagnosis of a rare condition.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare condition that most commonly occurs in the setting of acute myeloidleukaemia (AML) or other chronic myeloproliferative disorders. It presents as an abnormal growth that can develop anywhere in the human body, and its clinical manifestations are often non-specific.We present the case of a patient admitted to the emergency room with bowel obstruction. After careful clinical assessment, she underwent a right hemicolectomy. After a thorough examination of the surgical pathology specimen, including testing a wide array of immunohistochemical markers, the patient was t

Co-Occurrence of Myeloid Sarcoma of the Lymph Node and Acute Monocytic Myeloid Leukemia: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common leukemia in adults. According to the French-American-British (FAB) system, monocytic leukemia is classified as M5. Myeloid sarcoma further occurs in 3-5% of AML. This is defined as an extramedullary tumor of myeloid cells in the lymph nodes, soft tissues, periosteum, bone, central nervous system (CNS), spinal cord, intestine, mediastinum, prostate, uterus, or ovaries. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we describe the case of a 29-year-old female who presented with fever, swelling of gums, neck pain, and weakness, which had persisted for 1 wee
