AIM: To evaluate ophthalmological findings in children with Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS).
METHODS: An ophthalmological evaluation including visual acuity (VA), refraction, strabismus, near point of convergence (NPC), slit-lamp examination, ophthalmoscopy, axial length measurements and full-field electroretinogram was performed on 18 children with SRS (8 girls, 10 boys; mean age 11.6 years). PURPOSE: We report a series of pyogenic granulomas of the hand treated effectively in the office with silver nitrate cauterization.
METHODS: Twelve patients with 13 pyogenic granulomas of the hand were treated. The average duration of symptoms was 2 months. Masses were removed bluntly, pressure was held proximal to the lesion to effect hemostasis, and the base of the lesion was cauterized with silver nitrate applicators. After treatment patients were instructed to keep the lesions absolutely dry for 2 weeks.

The effects of subinhibitory concentrations of silver sulphadiazine (AgSD) on exoprotein production in Staphylococcus aureus strains T1, T4, RN4282 and RN 4282agr were studied. AgSD markedly increased levels of toxic shock syndrome toxin (TSST)-1 in strains T4 and RN4282. Specific features of light-dependent biosynthesis of melatonin in the epiphysis are analyzed in female silver-black foxes. Just as in most previously studied animals, the serotonin and 5-hydroxyindolylacetic acid content of epiphysis decreased during the dark time of the 24 h period, while the activity of the melatonin-synthesizing enzyme N-acetyltransferase and melatonin content of epiphysis and plasma, on the contrary, markedly and reliably increased. However, the pattern of changes in the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenaline shows specific features.
