Dimer model compounds of polyvinylanthracenes (1,n-di(9-anthryl)alkanes, when n=1-5) were synthesized to model the effects of distance and orientation between anthracene groups in polymeric systems. Charge transfer (CT) complexes of anthracene, 9-methylanthracene and 1,n-di(9-anthryl)alkanes with p-chloranil (p-CHL) have been investigated spectrophotometrically in dichloromethane. This work presents a synthesis of our results concerning line intensities and self-broadening coefficients for ClCN in the diad (nu1, 2nu 2 0). Absolute band strengths have been determined. The influence of the perturbation in these band strengths due to a Fermi resonance between the 10(0)0 and 02(0)0 levels has been analyzed.

The photochemistry of a p-biphenylyl diazo ester (BpCN2CO2CH3) and diazo ketone (BpCN2COCH3) were studied by ultrafast time-resolved UV-vis and IR spectroscopies. The excited states of these diazo compounds were detected and found to decay with lifetimes of less than 300 fs. The diazo ester produces singlet carbene with greater quantum efficiency than the ketone analogue due to competing Wolff rearrangement (WR) in the excited state of the diazo ketone. We describe the application of incoherent broadband cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (IBBCEAS) for the in situ detection of atmospheric trace gases and radicals (NO3, NO2, O3, H2O) in an atmospheric simulation chamber under realistic atmospheric conditions. FTIR spectra of mixtures of fluoroform (F3CH) and ammonia (NH3), have been studied in liquid xenon between 5400 and 500 cm-1. Spectroscopic evidence for the formation of a hydrogen bonded complex has been found and the complexation enthalpy Delta(LXe)H degrees in the temperature interval between 173 and 215 K, was determined to be 14.4 (7) kJ mol-1. The parallel fundamentals nu1 and nu2 of ammonia reveal a strong narrowing effect upon complex formation, whereas the perpendicular fundamentals nu3 and nu4 show a modest decrease of their width. Although breast-feeding in renal transplant patients has been discouraged because of the potential risk to the infant from the immunosuppressive drugs, two of our patients chose to breast-feed their infants for 3-4 months period. Serum and human milk IgA and zinc concentration were measured by the immunodiffusion and atomic absorption spectrophotometry method, respectively. In 1950 the term "sclerosing lipogranuloma" was introduced to designate a praticular subcutaneous granulomatous reaction that was believed to be a "local reactive process following injury to adipose tissue." Background: A consensus on the diagnostic utility of cerebrospinal fluid adenosine deaminase (ADA) for tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is lacking. Methods: Patients aged ≥12 years admitted with CNS infections were enrolled prospectively. ADA was measured with spectrophotometry. Results: We enrolled 251 TBM and 131 other CNS infections.
