BACKGROUND: Convergent strabismus fixus is classified into congenital and acquired types; however, there are only a few detailed case reports of congenital convergent strabismus fixus. Here, we report a rare case of this condition in which the eyeball was shown by imaging diagnosis to be fixed with a hard cord-like material in the orbit. To our knowledge, there have been no previous reports of congenital convergent strabismus fixus caused by an abnormal cord-like material that was clearly identifiable by imaging.

We describe a case of endophthalmitis following strabismus surgery. Drainage of the suprachoroidal effusion with injection of antibiotics was unsuccessful in salvaging vision. Endophthalmitis following strabismus surgery may present with findings simulating a choroidal effusion or hemorrhage. Treating physicians should be alert to signs and symptoms of this severe complication of strabismus surgery in preverbal children.

We measured ocular alignment in the horizontal direction for 17 monkeys reared under deprivation paradigms that involved monocular defocus, monocular occlusion and optically corrected aphakia coupled with continuous or partial occlusion of the fellow eye. Seven patients with acquired restrictive strabismus after retina surgery were surgically explored for the cause of the strabismus. In each case, the fat adherence syndrome was identified as playing a significant role in causing the restriction. Surgically induced necrotizing scleritis (SINS) is an uncommon but devastating complication that may occur days to years after ocular surgery. We report the case of a 32-year-old man who underwent uncomplicated strabismus surgery for large-angle exotropia and developed SINS characterized by painless scleral inflammation, choroidal exposure, and globe ectasia within days of surgery. Work-up revealed no associated infectious process or underlying systemic inflammatory condition. Clinical resolution occurred with oral immunosuppression alone, without need for graft.
