The gravity of this syndrome of severe diabetic stupor without ketosis may not be recognized because patients are usually middle-aged or elderly with mild diabetes. A lack of urgency in treating these patients is probably the cause of the widely reported mortality of 40 to 70 per cent.

A 10-year-old, intact male, cocker spaniel was presented with hypothermia, without shivering, and progressive stupor leading to coma. Myxedema coma, potentially precipitated by diuretic therapy, was tentatively diagnosed and treatment initiated, but progressive respiratory depression led to the decision to euthanize. Acute fatty liver is a rare but fatal complication of pregnancy. Here we describe a patient presenting with stupor and jaundice after aspirin intake at 35 weeks of gestation. Supportive management and delivery resulted in uneventful discharge of the patient and the newborn. Differential diagnosis and management of this condition are discussed.

The neuroleptic malignant syndrome is an uncommon, severe illness that consists of fever, muscular rigidity, and stupor. Various neuroleptics have been associated with the disease. A detailed neurological, medical, and neuropathological evaluation of this case was performed. Presumably, the syndrome is secondary to biochemical dysfunction of the basal ganglia and possible of the hypothalmus.
