In this report, fluorescent systems consisting of two Rhodamine B moieties were designed and synthesized employing the solid-phase synthetic approach. The compounds were tested for their chemosensing behavior upon the addition of various metal ions over UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectra. A simple co-precipitation technique is proposed for synthesis of tin oxide (SnO2) microrods. Stannous chloride and urea were used during synthesis. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the annealed product consists of SnO2 microrods having tetragonal unit cells, while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed the rod-like morphology of a synthesized product. The effect of six water quality constituents on wastewater effluent disinfection by tin oxide anodes (TOAs) was investigated in single cell laboratory reactors. Several concentrations of suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand (COD), alkalinity, ammonia-nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen, and nitrate-nitrogen were added to media containing 106 total coliform bacteria mL-1. Impalement injuries of the oral cavity are common in children and the potential for serious complications including internal carotid artery thrombosis can be unnoticed. We present a patient who sustained a penetrating injury in which a "tin whistle" caused herniation of the parotid gland which was not detected on clinical examination. We discuss the challenging clinical examination, the role of investigations, and consequences of these injuries aiming at increasing awareness and optimizing patient management.

OBJECTIVES: Carcinogenicity and chronic toxicity of indium-tin oxide (ITO) were examined by inhalation exposure of rats and mice to ITO aerosol.
METHODS: Fifty mice of both sexes were exposed to ITO at 0 (control), 0.01, 0.03 or 0.1 mg/m(3) for 6 h/day, 5 day/wk for 104 wk, and 50 rats of both sexes were exposed to 0, 0.01 or 0.03 mg/m(3) ITO for the same time period.
