Solitary presumed choroidal tuberculomas masquerading as choroidal tumors.

The ocular involvement of tuberculosis is not uncommon but diverse. Rarely, patients initially present with ocular signs that simulate intraocular malignancy. We report 3 cases of isolated presumed choroidal tuberculoma masquerading as intraocular tumor. Two patients had no systemic evidence of tuberculosis with strongly positive purified protein derivative skin test and one patient had evidence of inactive old pulmonary tuberculosis demonstrated by chest computed tomography. Antituberculous regimen including isoniazid 5 mg/kg/day, rifampicin 600 mg/day, ethambutol 15 mg/kg/day, and pyrazinami

Case Report: Multiple Ocular Manifestations Assisted in the Diagnosis of Systemic Sarcoidosis.

SIGNIFICANCE: Sarcoidosis is a variable, multisystem granulomatous disease, which can affect many organs including the lungs, lymph nodes, and eyes. It is difficult to differentiate sarcoidosis and tuberculosis because of their similar clinical and pathological features. PURPOSE: This study aimed to describe a sarcoidosis case with typical ocular and systemic manifestations combined with suspected tuberculosis infection. CASE REPORT: A 30-year-old Chinese man, initially diagnosed with tuberculosis, presented with typical ocular sarcoidosis during antituberculosis therapy. The ocular surface,

Primary tuberculosis of the retina.

A case of pseudoglioma diagnosed on histopathology to be retinal tuberculosis is presented with a general review of the literature on ocular tuberculosis. The case is peculiar in that retinal tuberculosis occurred without concomitant involvement of the choroid.

Pattern of Uveitic Hypotony in a Tertiary Eye Hospital in India.

PURPOSE: To report pattern of uveitic patients with hypotony in Indian population. METHODS: Retrospective medical record review of 30 eyes of 21 consecutive patients with uveitic hypotony. Patient demographics, ocular findings and systemic association were recorded. RESULTS: Mean age of the patients was 29.5 years (range 7-71 years) and 80.9%(17 patients) were below the age of 40 years. Most common complaint associated with the development of hypotony was diminution of vision (26 eyes; 86.6%), and cells in anterior vitreous (25 eyes, 83.3%) were the most common slit-lamp finding. Most common

[State of nonpulmonary tuberculosis care in West Siberia].

Basic epidemiologic parameters in relation to extrapulmonary tuberculosis were analysed in 6 regions of West Siberia as well as the state of the material-technical base of extrapulmonary service in these areas. Despite a general reduction of the revealed incidence and morbidity of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, the true incidence persists at a high level with predominance of advanced forms of the process. One of the causes of this situation is insufficient material-technical support of extrapulmonary tuberculosis service in West Siberia.

Tuberculosis of the eye, case series study.

Tuberculosis of the eye represents a challenge throughout the world, and there is a continuous debate about its pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment. The present research represents an interventional prospective study focusing on the variable clinical presentations, and the diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of ocular tuberculosis. Fifteen eyes from nine cases were diagnosed with ocular tuberculosis, treated, and followed up between 2010 and 2020. The diagnosis was based on (1) a compatible clinical picture, (2) highly positive Tuberculin skin test or a positive IGRA test (Interfe

Retina and the tubercle Bacillus: Four decades of our journey and current understanding.

Tuberculosis continues to be a major pandemic with enormous public health implication. Involvement of ocular tissues in the form of tubercles, tuberculomas, panophthalmitis, and iris granulomas are well recognized as definitive manifestations of tuberculosis. For these lesions, confirmatory evidence is available in the form of demonstration of acid-fast Bacillus on Ziehl-Neelsen staining. For other retinochoroidal disorders such as central serous chorioretinopathy, retinal vasculitis, and presumed ocular tuberculosis, hard evidence about the role of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is lacking. In th

Latent tuberculosis-related scleritis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Scleritis is a painful inflammatory process centered in the sclera that may involve the cornea and the underlying uvea. The etiology is commonly idiopathic or autoimmune but some cases are associated with systemic infection such as tuberculosis. CASE PRESENTATION: In this report, we describe an unusual case of a female Moroccan patient who had a long history of bilateral recurrent scleritis associated with peripheral keratopathy and anterior uveitis. The patient was diagnosed with latent tuberculosis and responded to antitubercular therapy administrated after exclusion of other ae

Ophthalmoscopy in the early diagnosis of opportunistic tuberculosis following renal transplant.

Chronic renal failure is a common sequel of renal inflammatory disease or diabetes mellitus. As a result of the immunosuppression that is induced by uremia, hemodialysis or posttransplant immunosuppressive medication, these patients are at a higher risk of opportunistic infections. Various viral, bacterial and mycobacterial infections have been reported. Tuberculosis is a common systemic opportunistic infection but reports of ocular involvement with pulmonary or disseminated tuberculosis are rare. We report the systemic and ocular findings in two postrenal-transplant patients with pulmonary or
