Multifocal tuberculosis with cerebral, spinal, pulmonary and abdominal involvement in a 16-year-old girl: A radiological case report.

Multifocal tuberculosis involving the central nervous system and systemic organs is uncommon but well documented, particularly in endemic regions and in the setting of incomplete treatment. We report the case of a 16-year-old girl with prior pulmonary tuberculosis and poor therapeutic adherence who presented with progressive paraparesis over 3 weeks. Brain Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated multiple supratentorial enhancing lesions consistent with solid granulomatous tuberculomas, without significant surrounding edema. Associated leptomeningeal and pachymeningeal enhancement was also obse

Is Restoration of Sagittal Spinopelvic Parameters Necessary in Spinal Tuberculosis of Lumbar and Lumbosacral Spine? Conservative versus Operative Management.

BACKGROUND: The relationship of spinopelvic parameters with spondylolisthesis is widely explored. However, there is scarce evidence on correlation of tuberculosis of lumbar spine with respect to spinopelvic harmony. The current study aims to find the association between functional outcomes and spinopelvic parameters in lumbar spine tuberculosis treatment. METHODS: A total of 47 patients with active tuberculosis confined to lumbar spine were prospectively analyzed and divided into 2 groups according to mode of intervention. Group A included 26 operatively managed patients and group B had 21 co

Changing trends in duration of treatment of musculoskeletal and spinal tuberculosis- long term experience in a tertiary care teaching hospital.

Duration of antitubercular therapy (ATT) for musculoskeletal (MSK) tuberculosis (TB) is a challenge, particularly if pain persists at the end of therapy. WHO recommends 6-9 months therapy, index TB guidelines of India recommends 12 months ATT extendable to 18 months, yet many surgeons in India continue to prescribe 18-24 months ATT in all cases of MSK TB. To address this controversy, two studies were conducted to assess the adequacy of 6 months ATT for MSK TB, the third study to evaluate results of 9-12 months of ATT and fourth study to assess residual back pain in spinal TB after ATT of diffe

INTRODUCTION: Spinal Tuberculosis (STB) represents between 1% and 2% of total tuberculosis cases. STB management remains challenging; the first-line approach consists of medical treatment, while surgery is reserved for patients with complications. No data regarding STB treatment with bedaquiline-containing regimens are available in the literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: Herein, we report the case of a 21-year-old man from Côte d'Ivoire with a multidrug resistance STB with subcutaneous abscess. After approval of the hospital off-label drug committee, we started bedaquiline 400 mg daily for two week

LncRNA HCG18 regulates the progression of spinal tuberculosis by modulating the hsa-miR-146a-5p/TGF-β1/SMADs pathway.

Spinal tuberculosis is the most common extrapulmonary tuberculosis, characterized by intervertebral disc destruction, which seriously affects people's quality of life. Recent studies have suggested that the TGF-β1/SMADs signaling pathway plays an important regulatory role in the process of intervertebral disc destruction caused by spinal tuberculosis. However, the abnormal TGF-β1/SMADs signaling pathway in spinal tuberculosis is not fully understood. Herein, we found for the first time that HCG18 was significantly upregulated in spinal tuberculosis nucleus pulposus clinical samples and confirm
