Though all persons with an ulceration share at least one symptom of the ulcer diathesis, the treatment of a specific patient's problem demands individualization so that the best-suited operative procedure will be performed. If patients are appropriately selected for surgical procedures, the success ratio is maximized, and the frequency of unde…

Twelve cases of peptic ulcer with diabetes mellitus were found in 165 hospitalized diabetics. All of them had gastric ulcer and no duodenal ulcers were found. The incidence of peptic ulcer in diabetics was comparatively higher than the previously reported series. But there was nosignificant correlation between the duration of diabetes and the onset of gastric ulcer. The gastric ulcer with poorly controlled diabetes showed more intractability than those without triopathy and well-controlled diabetes.

One hundred seventeen patients with recurrent ulcer were treated at the University of Michigan Medical Center. In nine patients a second operation was required, and three patients underwent a third operative procedure. Twenty-one additional patients were satisfactorily treated medically so that, overall, 92 of 117 patients (79%) had a good result. Twelve patients had residual symptoms and 13 were lost to follow-up. There were…

Though the proper genesis of peptic ulcer is still unknown, one can proceed from the fact that the cause of the development of the defect is a disturbance of the equilibrium between aggressive and defensive factors on the surface of the stomach. It is taken the view that an uncomplicated ulcus duodeni and ulcus ventriculi should be treated in the outpatient department. Strong diet prescriptions are certainly not necessary, reduction of the consumption of nicotine and avoidance of nutrients increasing secretion and individually incompatible is, however, necessary.
