The social specificities of hostility toward vaccination against Covid-19 in France.

Equal Access to the COVID-19 vaccine for all remains a major public health issue. The current study compared the prevalence of vaccination reluctance in general and COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and social and health factors associated with intentions to receive the vaccine. A random socio-epidemiological population-based survey was conducted in France in November 2020, in which 85,855 adults participants were included in this study. We used logistic regressions to study being "not at all in favor" to vaccination in general, and being "certainly not" willing to get vaccinated against Covid-19. Ou

Could human challenge studies for COVID-19 vaccines be justified in South Africa?

Although human challenge studies (HCSs) have been widely employed in vaccine development for malaria, dengue, typhoid and cholera, the role of this research design in COVID-19 remains controversial. While the potential social value of HCSs in the context of a pandemic is clear, bioethicists are divided on the ethics, given that effective treatment for COVID-19 has eluded us to date. While compelling ethics arguments have been offered on both sides of the debate, scientific and regulatory complexities may not have been fully appreciated. Furthermore, accelerated development of efficacious vacci

Reasons physicians accepted or declined smallpox vaccine, February through April, 2003.

From February to April 2003, we performed an e-mail-based survey to assess responses of physicians at Yale University to being offered smallpox vaccine. Of 58 respondents, 3 (5%) had been or intended to be vaccinated. Reasons cited for declining vaccination included: belief that benefits did not outweigh risks (55%), belief that the vaccination program was unnecessary (18%), desire to wait and see what side effects occurred in vaccinees (11%), and worries about compensation or liability (7%). Most (94%) considered risks to themselves, family, or patients in their decision. Only 3% thought a sm

Risk, its perception and the media: the MMR controversy.

This article aims to explore how the media contributes to and generates 'risk' and 'risk perception.' The example of parents refusing to have their children immunised with the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine following negative media reporting will be discussed. The media appears to have an important influence on the perception of risk. We are living in a society that is increasingly aware of risk, and in which risk is socially constructed. It is important that healthcare professionals provide clear, consistent, evidence-based information to clients, ensuring that any areas of uncertai

Misinformation is eroding the foundation of public health.

Robert M. Califf, MD, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), noted at the end of his term that misinformation was a priority during his tenure; however, COVID-19 vaccines have dissuaded people from getting the vaccine and contributed to preventable deaths. The Incoming Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr (RFK Jr), which includes the FDA, has now stated that there are not sufficient vaccine safety studies, falsely asserted the government doesn't have good vaccine safety monitoring, and that we don't have good science on almost everyth

Passive Immunization Hesitancy Among Rabies-Exposed Individuals in China: A Multicenter Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Rabies is an almost universally fatal disease for which post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), including passive immunization (PI) with rabies immunoglobulin or monoclonal antibodies, remains the only effective intervention. Despite established clinical guidelines, real-world PI utilization remains suboptimal. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and determinants of PI hesitancy among previously unvaccinated patients with Category III rabies exposure in China. METHODS: This multicenter cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted at 12 rabies PEP clinics or emergency depa

[Compliance with Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2; Information Transmission Based on Scientific Evidence and Its Difficulty].

The fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Japan began after January 2020. In order for the country to resume an active social life as a society, it is necessary to prevent an increase in the number of newly infected people with severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and to prevent aggravation and/or death after infection. Although several therapeutic agents have been developed to treat COVID-19 after infection, vaccination with SARS-CoV-2 is the most effective in controlling or even ending the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. The Ministry of Health, Labour and

Predicting COVID-19 vaccination intention using protection motivation theory and conspiracy beliefs.

BACKGROUND: While COVID-19 vaccine uptake has been encouraging overall, some individuals are either hesitant towards, or refuse, the vaccine. Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) has been applied to influenza vaccine acceptance, but there is a lack of research applying PMT to COVID-19 vaccine acceptance. Additionally, prior research has suggested that coronavirus conspiracy beliefs and demographic factors may play a role in attitudes towards the vaccine. This study aimed to predict COVID-19 vaccination intention using PMT, coronavirus conspiracy beliefs, and demographic factors. Furthermore, vac
