Background∕Objectives: While uterine leiomyomas are one of the most common pathologies encountered in gynecology, myomas arising from the vagina are rarely identified and a limited number of cases have been reported so far. A personal series of 716 patients with vesico-vaginal and/or recto-vaginal fistulae is presented. Five hundred and seventy-eight patients were managed in Africa, mainly at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, while 138 were kindly referred to me from various parts of Britain. Treatment of metronidazole-resistant Trichomonas vaginalis infection is complicated by the lack of an effective alternative therapeutic regimen. Data on the susceptibility of the organism to metronidazole and other nitroimidazoles are important in managing intractable cases. A case of trichomonal vaginitis with true resistance to metronidazole that responded to treatment with tinidazole is reported.

In the out-patient department and antenatal clinic 1000 patients were examined for yeast of the genital tract by the nickerson-medium. In 10.3% of the patients the cultures showed yeast.
