In this prospective analysis, we assess the medium-term benefits, efficacy, and safety of the TMJ Concepts joint replacement system in the United Kingdom. Outcome measures of pain, maximum mouth opening, and diet were recorded preoperatively and at intervals up to 3 and 5 years. All patients who had replacement temporomandibular joints (TMJ) within a 6-year period were included. A total of 58 patients (84 joints) were followed up for 3 years (mean age 47, range 19-72) and 26 (42 joints) for 5 years (mean age 46, range 27-70). We investigated susceptibility to antimicrobials of 89 staphylococcal species from PJIs and analyzed fluoroquinolone (FQ)-resistance mechanisms. Staphylococcal isolates showed high resistance to oral antimicrobials, with the exception of TMP-STX and linezolid. The main mechanism of resistance to FQ was mutations in quinolone-resistance-determining-regions. Fifteen percent of Staphylococcus aureus overexpressed efflux-pump genes.

OBJECTIVE: The perioperative outcomes of the endovascular approach to aortobronchial fistula have been favorable. However, it is uncertain whether thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR) alone provides a complete and durable cure for an aortobronchial fistula. TEVAR does nothing to address the issue of the defect in the respiratory tract, leaving the patient at risk of aortobronchial fistula recurrence and/or stent graft infection. PURPOSE: To report a case of iris abscess due to bacterial endocarditis.
CASE REPORT: A 46-year-old male under diagnosis of promielocitic leukemia and endocarditis presented with decreased vision in left eye (OS). Ophthalmic exploration revealed iris abscess and hypopyon with fibrinous exudate in iris of the left eye and tyndall +1 in right eye (OD). Blood culture and anterior chamber paracentesis was positive for methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus and negative for blastic cells in citology. Treatment with systemic antibiotic was initiated with total resolution of inflammation.
