PURPOSE: The transurethral resection in saline system uses bipolar energy for transurethral prostate resection, thus, avoiding the need for glycine irrigation and its associated complications. We compared the clinical efficacy and safety of bipolar transurethral resection in saline and of monopolar transurethral prostate resection for symptomatic benign prostate hyperplasia.

Recurrences were analyzed in 142 patients with invasive bladder cancer, who were treated either by definitive irradiation or preoperative irradiation and cystectomy. In 52 patients an estimation of the radiation response, by endoscopic re-examination soon after reaching 40 Gy, was done. The aim of this procedure was to select those patients who can probably be cured by radiotherapy alone. However, the predictive value of the examination seems to be low. The authors report 5 cases of embryonic sarcoma of the uro-genital sinus. 3 children, aged respectively, 17 months, 2 1/2 years, 6 years and two adolescents of 17 and 19 years. There were 3 boys and 2 girls. In only one case was the tumour obvious on clinical examination. In all the other cases, it caused urinary retention.
