Ninety-four patients with carcinoma of the major salivary glands seen at Indiana University Hospitals from 1960-1977 were studied. Eighty-four patients completed their planned course of therapy, and 49 of 84 patients remain alive with no evidence of disease 2-17 years following treatment. OBJECTIVE: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) present a markedly increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality since the early stages of the disease and a high prevalence of malnutrition, inflammation, and accelerated atherosclerosis. Personalized nutritional intervention, with of a low-protein diet (LPD), since the early stages of CKD should be able to achieve significant metabolic improvements. In our study we have verified the effects of a personalized dietary intervention in patients in the CKD stages 3/4 KDOQI on nutritional, metabolic and vascular indices.

The pathophysiology of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is not fully understood. In children, airway obstruction secondary to tonsilloadenoidal hypertrophy is the leading cause of OSAS. Seven cases with secondary skin carcinomas are described. The primary tumor was located at the tongue, the larynx, the thyroid, the abdomen, the ovaries, the collum uteri and the rectum. From the literature 60 other patients with secundary skin carcinomas and 100 primary carcinomas were evaluated. Clinical evidences for a secundary skin carcinoma are: unusual localization, multiple occurrence and an even surface. It was examined whether the localization of the secundary skin tumor refers to the localization of the primary tumor.
