Clinical state assessment in bipolar patients by means of HRV features obtained with a sensorized T-shirt.

The aim of this study is to identify parameters extracted from the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) signal that correlate to the clinical state in patients affected by bipolar disorder. 25 ECG and activity recordings from 12 patients were obtained by means of a sensorized T-shirt and the clinical state of the subjects was assessed by a psychiatrist. Features in the time and frequency domain were extracted from each signal. HRV features were also used to automatically compute the sleep profile of each subject by means of an Artificial Neural Network, trained on a control group of healthy subjects.

Enhancing esophageal cancer detection using a deep learning framework and a novel spectrum-aided vision enhancer for virtual narrow band imaging.

Esophageal cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy where early detection is critical for survival. However, early-stage lesions typically present subtle mucosal changes that are difficult to identify using standard White Light Imaging (WLI), and hardware-based Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) is not universally available. In this study, we propose a novel image processing algorithm termed the Spectrum-Aided Vision Enhancer (SAVE) to address these challenges in computer-aided diagnosis (CAD). Leveraging hyperspectral data principles, SAVE transforms standard WLI endoscopic images into enhanced, NBI-l

LobePrior segments lung lobes on computed tomography images in the presence of severe abnormalities.

The development of robust algorithms for lung and lobe segmentation is essential for diagnosing and monitoring pulmonary diseases. Obtaining manual or automatic annotations is challenging, especially in patients with severe abnormalities due to poorly visible lobar fissures. We present LobePrior, an automated lung lobe segmentation method combining deep neural networks and probabilistic models. Segmentation occurs in three stages: a coarse stage processing downsampled images, a high-resolution stage where specialized AttUNets segment each lobe, and a final post-processing stage. Probabilistic

Intelligent feature fusion with dynamic graph convolutional recurrent network for robust object detection to assist individuals with disabilities in a smart Iot edge-cloud environment.

Smart Internet of Things (IoT)-edge-cloud computing defines intelligent systems where IoT devices create data at the network's edge, which is then further processed and analyzed in local edge devices before transmission to the cloud for deeper insights and storage. Visual impairment, like blindness, has a deep effect on a person's psychological and cognitive functions. So, the use of assistive models can help mitigate the adverse effects and improve the quality of life for individuals who are blind. Much current research mainly concentrates on mobility, navigation, and object detection (OD) in

MIMI-ONET: Multi-Modal image augmentation via Butterfly Optimized neural network for Huntington DiseaseDetection.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a chronic neurodegenerative ailment that affects cognitive decline, motor impairment, and psychiatric symptoms. However, the existing HD detection methods are struggle with limited annotated datasets that restricts their generalization performance. This research work proposes a novel MIMI-ONET for primary detection of HD using augmented multi-modal brain MRI images. The two-dimensional stationary wavelet transform (2DSWT) decomposes the MRI images into different frequency wavelet sub-bands. These sub-bands are enhanced with Contract Stretching Adaptive Histogram Eq

Asphyxia screening kit.

Infant asphyxia is a condition due to insufficient oxygen intake suffered by newborn babies. A 4 to 9 million occurrences of infant asphyxia are reported each year by WHO. Early diagnosis of asphyxia is important to avoid complications such as damage to the brain, organ and tissue that could lead to fatality. This is possible with the automation of screening of infant asphyxia. Here, a non-invasive Asphyxia Screening Kit is developed. It is a Graphical User Interface that automatically detects asphyxia in infants from early birth to 6 months from their cries and displays the outcome of analysi

Variable site-occupancy classification of N-linked glycosylation using artificial neural networks.

A novel neural-network-based model has been developed for the prediction of N-linked glycosylation characteristics related to glycosylation site-occupancy. Intracellular oligosaccharide transfer to a polypeptide is known to be either robust or dependent upon culture conditions during pharmaceutical production. This glycan attachment is classified by the model as robust or variable and is based on an input of the polypeptide primary sequence around the site of glycosylation. The glycosylation model utilizes multiple recurrent neural networks followed by a perceptron classifier. The input length

Computer-assisted EEG diagnostic review for idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

Epilepsy diagnosis can be costly, time-consuming, and not uncommonly inaccurate. The reference standard diagnostic monitoring is continuous video-electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring, ideally capturing all events or concordant interictal discharges. Automating EEG data review would save time and resources, thus enabling more people to receive reference standard monitoring and also potentially heralding a more quantitative approach to therapeutic outcomes. There is substantial research into the automated detection of seizures and epileptic activity from EEG. However, automated detection soft

A Distributed Oscillatory Network Model of Parkinsonian Tremor: Integrating Basal Ganglia and Cerebello-Thalamic Circuits.

BACKGROUND: Parkinsonian tremor remains one of the least understood motor manifestations of Parkinson's disease. Unlike bradykinesia and rigidity, tremor often shows weak correlation with dopaminergic degeneration and variable responses to pharmacological and surgical treatments, suggesting mechanisms beyond classical basal ganglia dysfunction. Increasing evidence indicates that tremor may arise from interactions between multiple motor circuits rather than from a single oscillatory generator. METHODS: This mechanistic review integrates evidence from electrophysiological recordings, neuroimagi

Cycle-constrained adversarial denoising convolutional network for PET image denoising: Multi-dimensional validation on large datasets with reader study and real low-dose data.

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a critical tool for diagnosing tumors and neurological disorders but poses radiation risks to patients, particularly to sensitive populations. While reducing injected radiation dose mitigates this risk, it often compromises image quality. To reconstruct full-dose-quality images from low-dose scans, we propose a Cycle-constrained Adversarial Denoising Convolutional Network (Cycle-DCN). This model integrates a noise predictor, two discriminators, and a consistency network, and is optimized using a combination of supervised loss, adversarial loss, cycle consi
