Ingestion of foreign bodies is not an uncommon problem in our society. The patients usually ingest different types of foreign bodies either accidentally or deliberately. Rare in children but adults are not uncommonly affected and are either psychiatric patients or ingest foreign bodies accidentally. Life threatening complications may occur at times due to ingestion of sharp and pointed objects. An interesting case of ingestion of multiple injurious foreign bodies presenting with multiple small intestinal perforations is presented with review of literature.

A 3 1/2-year-old boy accidentally rode a bike into a shrubbery 1 day before he was presented at the clinic. PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Traumatic injury of the urinary tract may be caused by external accidental trauma or due to iatrogenic injury (typically as a result of catheterisation procedures). We reviewed the charts of 21 children admitted to the hospital with rib fractures to determine the cause of trauma, the relationship of the number and location of rib fractures to other injuries, the course of flail chest in children, and the frequency and characteristics of injuries caused by child abuse. Dermatologists and child abuse are not frequently associated in the minds of most physicians. Yet the most common manifestations of child abuse are cutaneous. This article reviews cutaneous manifestations of physical abuse, including bruises, lacerations, abrasions, human bites, and burns. It also discusses ways that dermatologists can differentiate abusive injuries from accidental ones as well as from the many dermatologic conditions that can mimic child abuse. Finally, we review what actions the dermatologist should take when suspecting abuse in a patient.

Prosthetic measures in the mixed dentition must allow for the actualities of this developmental phase. Traumatic or developmental injuries to enamel and dentine, accidental tooth loss and hypodontia or oligodontia are indications for prosthetic treatment in school children, at which orthodontic aspects should always be considered. The prosthetic approach is characterized by the respect to preventive aspects related to the further biomorphosis of the dentition. With reference to the different phases of mixed dentition, methodical suggestions are given in the form of tables.

The present survey deals with the physiological development and pathological disturbances of the female genital organs in childhood. The different phases in development of the female genitals are discussed under sections on the newborn phase, the resting phase and the maturing time. Then follows a description of the most important illnesses met with in practice including various types of vulvovaginitis, tumours, genital bleeding and accidental injuries. This review could not be extended to include a description of congenital malformations and endocrinological disturbances.

Controlled hyperventilation has shown to be an effective method of treatment in patients with pronounced brain edema and high ICP caused by accidental or surgical damage. This treatment has to be started as early as possible after the injury to avoid secondary changes and spreading cerebral edema leading to the impact of the brain-stem and thus irreversible brain damage. If conducted consequently, controlled hyperventilation will diminish mortality rate and increase the rate of valuable recoveries in all sorts of brain injuries.
