Purpose: To evaluate the anti-angiogenic effect of topical administration of Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) on the reduction of corneal neovascularization (NV) in comparison to topical Bevacizumab.Methods: 18 eyes of 18 New Zealand rabbits were enrolled. Corneal NV was induced by a 7-0 silk suture. After suture removal, rabbits were randomly divided into three groups. In every group, one eye randomly treated with topical bevacizumab or topical PEDF or saline for 14 days. The area and length of neovascularization were measured by Image J. PURPOSE: To report 2 patients with colonization of therapeutic contact lens with dematiaceous fungi.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: The first patient had a retained soft contact lens on an opaque cornea for 4 years with brownish black multiple colonies on the soft contact lens and culture grew Bipolaris spp. The second patient was on therapeutic contact lens for pseudophakic bullous keratopathy for 4 months and developed a brownish colonization of contact lens with unidentified dematiaceous fungi. Both the patients had conjunctivitis but did not develop fungal keratitis.
CONCLUSION: Judicio

PURPOSE: Meibomian gland disease is generally accepted as the leading cause for evaporative dry eye disease (DED). In a previous study, perfluorohexyloctane, a semifluorinated alkane, has been demonstrated to significantly increase tear film breakup time and to reduce corneal fluorescein staining in patients with evaporative DED, thereby vastly reducing dry eye-related symptoms. Methazolamide (MTZ) is an anti-glaucoma drug. The present paper aims to characterize the physicochemical properties and degradation kinetics of MTZ to provide a basis for topical ophthalmic delivery. A 54-year-old woman with cutaneous malignant melanoma developed Vogt-Kayanagi-Harada (VKH)-like uveitis induced by dabrafenib/trametinib therapy. Dabrafenib was discontinued but she continued to use trametinib due to the risk of disease progression. Intraocular inflammation resolved after cessation of dabrafenib and administration of topical and systemic corticosteroids. Our patient outlines the importance of recognizing VKH-like uveitis as a consequence of dabrafenib/trametinib therapy in melanoma patients and highlights a question about the potential role of each drug in developing uveitis.

We report a case of biotin deficiency developed in a 25-yr-old man with Crohn's disease who had been on total parenteral nutrition for more than 9 months. His cutaneous, ophthalmic, and neurologic manifestations were characteristic of this disease entity described in literature. In particular, the appearance of his face deserves to be called "biotin deficiency facies." After administration of biotin the low plasma nonesterified fatty acid level promptly returned to normal. This phenomenon may prove to serve as a convenient means for the purpose of detecting biotin deficiency.
