BACKGROUND: End-stage renal disease carries a high treatment burden, reduced quality of life, and limited survival in older adults. Patients with advanced kidney disease (stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease [CKD]) often initiate dialysis without fully understanding the prognosis or quality of life associated with different treatment options.
LOCAL PROBLEM: Supportive kidney care (SKC), or kidney palliative care, is not routinely provided in private nephrology practice. Early SKC can improve quality of life and support patients in living well with chronic illness.
METHODS AND INTERVENTION: Using

BACKGROUND: Increasing numbers of underserved people with chronic diseases and decreasing providers in rural areas have contributed to the care shortage in the United States. Nurse-led telehealth/mobile care models have potential benefits for this population. However, there is a substantial gap in the literature regarding this topic.
PURPOSE: To examine the available literature on nurse-led telehealth/mobile health care models with a particular focus on care model settings, nursing roles, care components, achieved outcomes, and the identification of both facilitative factors and encountered c

Since 2015, the Long-Term Care Quality & Innovation (Q&I) Lab at the Brown University School of Public Health has advanced pragmatic, partner-engaged research to improve care for older adults and chronically ill individuals receiving post-acute and long-term care. Rather than evaluating interventions under controlled conditions, Q&I researchers conduct embedded studies in real-world care settings, working with clinicians and frontline staff to implement interventions and assess their effectiveness and feasibility in routine practice. In parallel, researchers also collaborate with health system

Recent advances in legislation have enabled nurses in the United Kingdom (UK) to become Nurse Independent and Supplementary Prescribers (NISP). The NISP can assess, diagnose and independently prescribe any licensed medicine within their area of competence. This change has meant the number of nurse prescribers in disease specific areas has increased. This study set out to assess the number of Epilepsy Specialist Nurses (ESNs) prescribing and the context in which they do so. A draft questionnaire was developed and piloted with 10 ESNs. Minor changes to improve data collection were made. In April

BACKGROUND: Nursing home entry often marks the transition into the end-of-life. In 2018, Germany legally introduced reimbursement for advance care planning (ACP according to § 132 g SGB V) in nursing homes that applied for ACP approval to improve end-of-life care. The Gut-Leben project aims to evaluate the implementation and barriers of ACP in nursing homes in Germany, with a special focus on the federal state of Lower Saxony, and provide practical recommendations for further development of end-of-life care.

This scoping review examined and synthesised existing literature on models of care involving Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (MHNPs) practising or consulting within Emergency Department (ED)-based Emergency Mental Health (EMH) services. EDs are a key access point for mental health care and often provide first contact or after-hours support for people experiencing crisis, reinforcing their central role within the mental health system. The review highlights the need for timely, safe and specialised mental health care within EDs to strengthen the quality, safety and responsiveness of EMH servic

BACKGROUND: People with advanced dementia often exhibit responsive behaviors such as apathy, depression, agitation, aggression, and psychosis. Non-pharmacological approaches (e.g., listening to music, watching television, doing arts and crafts) are now considered as a first-line strategy to manage responsive behaviors in clinical practice due to the potential risks associated with the antipsychotic medications. To date, no evaluations of immersive non-head mounted virtual reality (VR) experience as a non-pharmacologic approach for people with advanced dementia living in nursing homes have been

The Annie Goodrich Post-Graduate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) Fellowship, established in 2017, supports advanced practice nurses transitioning into independent psychiatric roles by emphasizing excellence in care and education. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) often enter practice with limited experience managing complex psychopharmacologic regimens, creating a critical gap in competency. To address this need, we developed a specialized psychopharmacology curriculum designed to strengthen foundational knowledge and promote confident, evidence-informed clinical dec

Nurses deliver most of Israel's healthcare services, yet its nurse per population ratio is only 5.9 per 1000, one of the lowest in the developed world. For several years, the managers of the profession have been pushing to upgrade nursing and to move it into the academic sphere. The semiskilled qualification of the practical nurse has been eliminated and training programs for registered nurses are being transformed from diploma training to academic degree programs. A midwifery license is accessible only to registered nurses who take a further 1 year of advanced training and sit the State Midwi

BACKGROUND: Climate change is transforming the environmental, social and structural determinants of health, intensifying inequities across populations and geographies. Although nurses are at the forefront of addressing climate-related health impacts, nurses' influence on climate policy remains significantly underleveraged. Strengthening the leadership and advocacy of nurses is essential for meeting the escalating population health challenges posed by climate change.
ANALYSIS: There is limited organized advocacy for climate action by public health nurses. At the 7th Global Network of Public He

Background and PurposeChronic disease management within contemporary health care systems increasingly relies on nurses functioning in roles analogous to holistic nurse coaches, emphasizing self-management, behavior change, and whole-person care (American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation. (2023). Nurse coach role and competencies. https://www.ahncc.org). Within the Military Health System (MHS), chronic illness further affects readiness, resilience, and long-term force sustainability. Despite these demands, onboarding and continuing education for disease management (DM) nurses remain la
