Host Metabolites Directly Suppress Fusarium Mycotoxin Biosynthesis and Enable Integrated Control of Rice Spikelet Rot Disease.

Rice spikelet rot disease (RSRD) threatens food safety by contaminating grains with diverse mycotoxins. This study revealed a climate-driven shift in pathogen dominance from Alternaria spp. to Fusarium spp., determining associated toxin chemotypes. Untargeted LC-MS metabolomics of wheat infected by Fusarium graminearum (wild-type vs ΔTri5) identified host-derived metabolites, 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA) and rutin, as key toxin-suppressing candidates. Both compounds strongly inhibited mycotoxin biosynthesis (>95%) with minimal antifungal activity. Mechanistic analyses showed that rut

Ozone treatment of postharvest apricot fruit reveals a pathway to enhanced black spot disease resistance mediated by DNA methylation.

Postharvest apricot fruits are highly susceptible to Alternaria alternata infection, which induces black spot disease and causes considerable economic losses. This study investigated the effect of ozone (O₃) on the resistance of 'Chuanzhihong' apricots to A. alternata using integrated metabolomic, transcriptomic, and whole-genome methylomic analyses. Fruits were inoculated with A. alternata, treated with 46 μL·L-1 O₃ for 10 min, and stored for 6 days. O₃ significantly inhibited disease progression, promoted the accumulation of 11 amino acids, elevated jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA)

Evaluation of Calcofluor staining in the diagnosis of fungal corneal ulcer.

For laboratory diagnosis of mycotic keratitis, demonstration of fungal pathogens on direct microscopy and their isolation by culture is essential. The addition of Calcofluor white (CFW) stain to the diagnostic armamentarium has significantly increased the sensitivity of smear examination on direct microscopy. During a period of 1 year, 143 consecutive patients with corneal ulcers were investigated by direct microscopy with potassium hydroxide (KOH) wet mount, Calcofluor white stain and routine cultures of corneal scrapings. Fungi were detected as aetiological agents in 21 (15%) patients. Diffe

Antimicrobial Properties and Ecotoxicity of Azo Oxime Ether - Emerging First-in-class Fungicide for Crop Protection.

Currently, the resistance of phytopathogenic fungi to widely used fungicides is increasing. The intensification of agricultural production due to population growth precludes the abandonment of chemical plant protection products. Therefore, the search for new compounds with fungicidal activity represents an urgent research direction. In this study, the biological activity (fungicidal and antimicrobial properties) and ecotoxicological profile of a leading compound from novel fungicide class, azo oxime ethers, were investigated. The test compound (TC) inhibited the growth of several phytopathogen

[The comparative analysis of the spectrum of sensitization to food, pollen and fungal allergens in patients with atopic dermatitis and psoriasis].

The relevance of the study of psoriatic disease is due to the insufficient effectiveness of existing etiotropic and pathogenetic methods of treatment, which confirms the necessity to search for new approaches in the research of psoriasis, including those from the standpoint of etiopathogenesis. In the literature, there is information about the combination of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, which does not exclude a commonality of the causes and mechanisms leading to damage to the skin. The aim of the work was to study and conduct a comparative analysis of the sensitization spectrum of patients

Insights into the molecular basis of biocontrol of Brassica pathogens by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens UCMB5113 lipopeptides.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Certain micro-organisms can improve plant protection against pathogens. The protective effect may be direct, e.g. due to antibiotic compounds, or indirect, by priming of plant defence as induced systemic resistance (ISR). The plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens UCMB5113 shows potential for disease management of oilseed rape. To investigate the mode of action of this protection, especially in relation to jasmonic acid-dependent ISR, Bacillus UCMB5113 was tested with Arabidopsis thaliana mutants and several important fungal pathogens of Brassica

[Significance of the radioallergosorbent test (RAST) in the specific diagnosis of atopic bronchial asthma (author's transl)].

The radioallergosorbent test (RAST) is a recently developed radioimmunological in-vitro method for determining IgE-specific serum antibodies in reaginic allergy. There was 63.4% overall correspondence between RAST and bronchial provocation test in 423 tests with a total of eight perennial allergens on adults with asthma. Where there was disagreement, combination of postiive inhalation test and a negative RAST was much more frequent (33.6%) than in the obverse (3%). Agreement between RAST and provocation tests was 79% for the house dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, 71.5% for cat and dog

Modification Gene Knockout Diversifies Piericidins from the Marine-Derived Streptomyces psammoticus SCSIO NS126.

Piericidins are α-pyridone agricultural antibiotics produced by actinomycetes. To improve their yield and structural diversity from marine-derived Streptomyces psammoticus SCSIO NS126, this study employed homologous recombination to achieve large-fragment knockout of modification genes within the piericidin biosynthetic gene cluster. Deletion of the pie56-65 genes markedly elevated piericidin titers. Large-scale culture of the mutant afforded 21 piericidins, including 4 new analogues (1-4), and their plausible biosynthetic pathway was proposed. All isolated compounds displayed broad-spectrum a

Characterization of a new Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain NJ-15 as a potential biocontrol agent.

Phylogenetic characterization of soil isolate NJ-15, based on sequence homology of a partial 746-bp fragment of 16SrDNA amplicon, with the ribosomal database sequences (http://www.msu.edu/RDP/cgis/phylip.cgi), validated the strain as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The strain NJ-15 produced a substantial amount of indole acetic acid (IAA) in tryptophan-supplemented medium. Besides, the strain also exhibited significant production of both the siderophore and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) on chrome azurol S and King's B media, respectively. The data revealed lower HCN production under iron-limiting conditions

Biodegradable chitosan-based films decorated with biosynthetic copper oxide nanoparticle for post-harvest tomato preservation.

Postharvest fruit decay caused by pathogens is an important factor leading to product waste and economic losses, and fruit coating is considered an effective strategy to solve this problem due to its simple operation and effectiveness. In this study, nano modified chitosan film (CSC) was created by mixing chitosan (CS) and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) synthesized using abandoned Ficus carica fruit. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra indicated the formation of intermolecular interactions between CS and CuO NPs in the composite film. Compared with CS fi

Overexpression of SlGSNOR impairs in vitro shoot proliferation and developmental architecture in tomato but confers enhanced disease resistance.

The pervasive presence of nitric oxide (NO) in cells and its role in modifying cystein residues through protein S-nitrosylation is a remarkable redox based signalling mechanism regulating a variety of cellular processes. S-NITROSOGLUTATHIONE REDUCTASE (GSNOR) governs NO bioavailability by the breakdown of S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO), fine-tunes NO signalling and controls total cellular S-nitrosylated proteins. Most of the published data on GSNOR functional analysis is based on the model plant Arabidopsis with no previous report for its effect on in vitro regeneration of tissue cultured plants.
