An Incor (Berlin Heart AG, Berlin) left ventricular assist device (LVAD) was implanted; 6 months later the patient was admitted to our department for intravenous antibiotic therapy for a driveline infection. Two days after admission under direct echocardiographic monitoring, the pump failure was noted to be entirely dependent on the position of the cable. The pump was successfully replaced without cardiopulmonary bypass as a matter of urgency.

Two freshly isolated mumps virus strains were adapted to embryonated eggs. The activity of their neuraminidase (NA) and their antigenicity were examined in the 5th, 10th and 15th passages. The NA was characterized by estimation of the Michaelis constant, while the antigenicity of virus strains was assessed by induction of antibodies as detected in complement fixation (CF) tests. In the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis, Novi Sad, a total number of 1500 patients was tested with a Kveim antigen prepared in this institute.
