We present two cases of growth plate injury of the hand and wrist in young patients with renal rickets and osteodystrophy but no history of antecedent trauma. The postulated mechanism of injury is subclinical biomechanical stress on the involved extremity superimposed on the already weakened metaphysis and growth plate. INTRODUCTION: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a type I collagen disorder. Fragile and deformed bones increase fracture risk with noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) cuff use. Patients with OI require multiple surgeries, with blood loss and pain medications risking hypotension. There is not currently a widely accepted protocol for NIBP measurements in patients with OI. CASE: A 4-year-old boy sustained an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left forearm. Radiographs revealed a comminuted mid-diaphyseal ballistic radius fracture with a critical-sized bone defect. The fracture was treated with the placement of a flexible intramedullary nail and antibiotic cement spacer, followed by second-stage bone grafting and open reduction and internal fixation of the radius 6 weeks later. We report a patient with bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaws who developed pathological fractures of the upper and lower extremities after the suspension of treatment with bisphosphonates. Temporary discontinuation of the drugs does not alter the clinical course of the disease, and could result in the recurrence of bone pain and the progression of metastases or osteolytic lesions.

PURPOSE: The COVID pandemic has decreased orthopaedic fracture operative intervention and follow-up and increased the use of virtual telemedicine clinics. We assessed the implications of this management on future orthopaedic practice. We also surveyed patient satisfaction of our virtual fracture follow-up clinics.
METHOD: We prospectively analysed 154 patients during two weeks of 'lockdown' assessing their management. We surveyed 100 virtual fracture clinic follow-up patients for satisfaction, time off work and travel.

Between 1973 and 1983, fifty-eight patients who had an incomplete spinal-cord injury secondary to a fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine were managed by anterior cervical decompression and arthrodesis with iliac bone grafts.
