OBJECTIVE: Rotator cuff disorders (RCD) are among the most common causes of shoulder pain and functional limitation in clinical practice. Ultrasound (US)-guided subacromial corticosteroid injections are frequently used as a conservative treatment option for symptom relief in these patients. This study aimed to investigate the impact of subacromial bursitis on treatment outcomes following these injections.
METHODS: This single-center observational study included 55 adult patients diagnosed with RCD who underwent US-guided subacromial corticosteroid injections. Patients were categorized into tw

Enterococcus spp. are opportunistic bacteria capable of acquiring antimicrobial resistance and virulence traits, facilitating their adaptation to multiple ecological niches. Sternal bursitis, a condition affecting poultry welfare and carcass quality, remains poorly characterized from a microbiological perspective. This study provides the first genomic and phenotypic characterization of Enterococcus isolates from bursitis lesions in broilers, aiming to assess their antimicrobial resistance profiles, virulence determinants, and genetic diversity within a One Health framework. A 63-year-old female presented with acute, atraumatic posterior elbow pain. She was found to have infectious olecranon bursitis with resistant bacteria. Her treatment was complicated by a penicillin allergy, necessitating the use of linezolid, which was further complicated by the rare black hairy tongue (BHT) side effect of linezolid. Despite the visible discoloration and associated pain from BHT, the patient continued linezolid to treat her bursal infection. She recovered from the bursitis and linezolid side effects after completion, supporting that immediate withdrawal is not necessary for t

BACKGROUND: The forefoot is a preferential location for joint and tendon sheath inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It also contains bursae, of which the intermetatarsal bursae have a synovial lining. Some small imaging studies suggested that intermetatarsal bursitis (IMB) and submetatarsal bursitis (SMB) are involved in RA, but their association has not been thoroughly explored. Healthy control studies suggested that lesion size might be relevant. We studied the relation between IMB and SMB in early RA, compared to other arthritides and healthy controls, and the relevance of lesion siz

The deposition of aggrecan/hyaluronan (HA)-rich matrix within the tendon body and surrounding peritenon impede tendon healing and result in compromised biomechanical properties. Hence, the development of novel strategies to achieve targeted removal of the aggrecan-HA pericellular matrix may be effective in treating tendinopathy. The current study examined the therapeutic potential of a recombinant human hyaluronidase, rHuPH20 (FDA approved for reducing HA accumulation in tumors) for treating murine Achilles tendinopathy. The 12-week-old C57Bl/6 male mice were injected with two doses of rHuTGF-

The case of a male 76 year-old patient with a history of total hip replacement surgery is presented herein. The patient had tumors in the iliac fossa with swelling of the thigh and pain upon hip flexion and extension. The complementary ultrasound and computed tomography show a large lobed cystic tumor in the left iliac fossa, 7 cm in diameter, close to the prosthesis. The diagnosis was psoas bursitis secondary to the release of polyethylene particles that caused compression and thrombosis of the superficial femoral vein. Cyst formation caused by polyethylene disease after total hip arthroplast

Giant bursitis with rice bodies is an important clinical entity recognized in rheumatoid arthritis. Usually the bursitis is connected to a joint space. In this unusual case of a giant bursitis of the shoulder/neck region, no connection to a joint could be found. The bursitis lays directly on a rib. The clinical and radiological findings are presented and this special case is discussed in comparison to the literature.

Forty-six consecutive cases of olecranon bursitis were prospectively analyzed during a 1-year period. Eleven cases were septic; 35 cases were nonseptic. In addition to bursal fluid analysis, the surface temperature over the involved olecranon bursa and the contralateral (control) olecranon process was obtained by using a surface temperature probe. We compared the temperature difference between the involved and control sides in all septic and nonseptic cases. In nonseptic cases, the mean surface temperature difference was 0.7 degree C vs 3.7 degrees C in septic cases. In all septic cases, the t

Two double-blind studies were carried out to compare the effectiveness and tolerance of a slow-release tablet formulation of 300 mg fentiazac, given once daily, with the standard tablet formulations of 100 mg, given 4-times daily, or 200 mg, given twice daily. A total of 60 patients suffering from acute bicipital tendinitis and/or subdeltoid bursitis was studied, 15 patients on the slow-release and 15 on one of the two standard tablets in each of the two trials. Patients were assessed on entry and at Days 7 and 14 of treatment. The results in both studies showed that there was significant impr

Vaccination injection site adverse reactions are usually mild and transient, and post-vaccination musculoskeletal symptoms, such as myalgia and arthralgia, are very common. Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA), defined as shoulder pain and limited range of motion occurring after the administration of a vaccine intended for intramuscular administration in the upper arm, is a well-established condition in the medical literature, yet underreported. In such cases, subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis may occur, leading to shoulder dysfunction and ongoing pain. Millions of doses of

BACKGROUND: Scapulothoracic bursitis is a significant clinical condition that limits day-to-day function. Arthroscopic scapular debridement and resection have provided satisfactory outcomes; however, techniques, approaches, and recommendations remain varied. Novel bony parameters have also gained increasing interest owing to their value in preoperative planning.
PURPOSE: To assess midterm clinical outcomes after the arthroscopic management of scapulothoracic bursitis and to identify and measure novel bony parameters on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level

Introduction Ischial bursitis is a challenging chronic pain condition often resistant to conservative treatments. Ischial bursa injections, including fluoroscopically guided and landmark-based approaches, are commonly used when first-line interventions fail. This study aims to compare the efficacy of these two techniques in providing pain relief and improving function in patients with refractory ischial bursitis. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted using electronic medical records of nine patients with refractory ischial bursitis treated between April 1, 2023, and November 30, 2024.

BACKGROUND: Subacromial bursitis is a common cause of shoulder pain and functional limitation, due to inflammation of the subacromial bursa. Corticosteroid injections are widely used in cases unresponsive to conservative treatments. However, the optimal dose for achieving sustained symptom relief with minimal adverse effects, especially when administered under ultrasound guidance, remains a topic of clinical interest. This study evaluates the efficacy of different corticosteroid doses delivered via ultrasound-guided subacromial bursa injection.
METHODOLOGY: This retrospective study was conduc
