In order to restrict the spread of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in hospitals, it is necessary to characterize isolates rapidly and precisely. The objective of this study was to determine virulence factors and resistance profiles of MRSA strains among spa, agr, and SCCmec types. CASE SUMMARY: A 63-year-old woman with Candida albicans bacteremia and an 84-year-old man with Aspergillus fumigatus pneumonia developed hypertension within minutes of amphotericin B administration. Both patients' blood pressure returned to baseline soon after the infusion of amphotericin B was stopped. Neither patient was rechallenged.

Flavonoids are a group of polyphenolic plant compounds with a range of biological activities. This study shows that the flavonoids hesperetin and naringenin have antibacterial activity against methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates.
