Low-grade central osteosarcoma (LG-COS) is an uncommon variant of osteosarcoma (OS) that sometimes progresses to high-grade OS post-recurrence. Metastatic malignant melanoma is notorious for its phenotypic diversity and loss of differentiation markers. We herein summarized our experience with 14 metastatic melanomas showing complete loss of immunohistochemical melanocytic markers (with or without heterologous differentiation). The author reports on the progress made in the treatment of bone tumours in the last two decades. There is a short description of new entities like the solid form of aneurysmal bone cyst; dedifferentiated and clear-cell chrondrosarcoma; low malignant central osteosarcoma; periosteal and high-grade surface osteosarcoma, which have recently been reported in the literature. The response to the chemotherapy in osteosarcoma and the problems of limb-saving surgery in bone tumours are discussed.

Diabetes results from a reduction of pancreatic β-cells. Stimulating replication could normalize β-cell mass. However, adult human β-cells are recalcitrant to proliferation. We identified osteoprotegerin, a bone-related decoy receptor, as a β-cell mitogen. Osteoprotegerin was induced by and required for lactogen-mediated rodent β-cell replication.
