Multiple tethers are very likely extracted when leukocytes roll on the endothelium under high shear stress. Endothelial cells have been predicted to contribute more significantly to simultaneous tethers and thus to the overall rolling stabilization. We therefore extracted and quantified double tethers from endothelial cells with the micropipette aspiration technique. Our study examined the effect of an AR ethanol extract on both in vitro and in vivo murine CD4 T cells' differentiation into Th1 and Th2 subsets. UNLABELLED: Corneal metabolism is reduced after cataract extraction.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a prospective study the corneal thickness and endothelial cell count of 48 patients were examined after phacoemulsification. Corneal thickness was measured with an ultrasound pachymeter and the endothelial cell count with a contact endothelial camera at the 12 o'clock position and in the corneal center before and 4 weeks, 4 months and 1 year after operation.

A chloroform extract of Khat (Catha edulis) leaves was used to study the cytotoxic activity on KB, 1BR.3, and XP2Bi cells. Log phase cell survival curves showed an LD50 of 40 ng/ml for KB cells. 1BR.3 and XP2Bi cells were biphasic in their response to the extract during log phase, with an LD50 of 20 and 75 ng/ml, respectively. Natural plant extracts rich in polyphenols are increasingly being studied as multifunctional food ingredients with antioxidant and stabilizing properties.
