Background: The interplay between neuronutrition, physical activity, and mental health for enhancing brain resilience to stress and overall human health is widely recognized. The use of brain mapping via quantitative-EEG (qEEG) comparative analysis enables researchers to identify deviations or abnormalities and track the changes in neurological patterns when a targeted drug or specific nutrition is administered over time. High-functioning mild-to-borderline intellectual disorders (MBID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) constitute leading global public health challenges due to their high prev

INTRODUCTION: The quality of life (QoL) of parents and caregivers of children with disabilities in Saudi Arabia is examined in this systematic review.
METHODS: Fourteen cross-sectional studies published between 2020 and 2024 are included, encompassing 1,841 caregivers, of whom 60.2% are mothers, 23.1% fathers, and 18.4% other caregivers, caring for 1,460 children with disabilities. QoL is primarily assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF in 10 studies, followed by the SF-36 in two studies and the Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale in one study.
RESULTS: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attentio…

BACKGROUND: Active control over study, which helps to optimize memory performance, has been widely observed in adults. Recently, it has been revealed that this effect develops with age in typically developing (TD) children. However, no prior studies have directly compared active control effects between children with learning disabilities (LD) and their TD peers. This study is the first to examine how these effects manifest in both groups using the rigorous experimental paradigm.
METHODS: In this study, an active learning paradigm was adopted in which TD (N = 51, 28 female/ 23 male, 8-11 years

This study examines the effectiveness of combining simultaneous prompting method with small group teaching through computer projection, SMART board, tablet computer and humanoid robot to teach discrete skills to children with developmental disabilities (CDD). The study included 14 CDD aged 10-15. It utilizes a multiple probe design across behaviors and probe conditions and replicates them across subjects. Each participant is taught discrete skills within a small group teaching arrangement. The study includes daily probes, full probes, teaching sessions, generalization, and follow-up sessions.

Children with developmental disabilities often face challenges in adaptive behavior and motor skills. Aquatics is recognized as a beneficial activity for enhancing physical health and social behavior in this population. The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of a parent-facilitated aquatics program for children with developmental disabilities. Fourteen children with developmental disabilities, accompanied by one biological parent (5 mothers, 9 fathers), participated in an eight-week aquatics program. The outcome measures of the study included pre- and post-intervention assessments

PURPOSE: Parents of children with disabilities often encounter challenges when supporting their child's physical activity (PA). Research on the psychological factors influencing parental support for PA has produced mixed results. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to a) synthesize psychological factors associated with parental support for PA, and b) evaluate the moderators of the association between parental support for PA and these psychological factors.
METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, this meta-analysis reviewed peer-reviewed English articles on parental support for children with d…

BACKGROUND: Online child sexual abuse (OCSA) is a growing social concern. However, its manifestations among children with disabilities (CWDs), who face an increased risk of sexual abuse, remain largely unexamined.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to fill this gap by examining professionals' perspectives of the OCSA of CWDs through their work at the 105 Hotline, an Israeli national call center that accepts queries and reports of the cyber victimization of minors.
METHODS: A mixed methods research design was employed. A quantitative analysis was performed on 114 case files involving the OCSA of CWDs…

In recent years there has been a growing public and professional interest in situations of risk, abuse, and exploitation of children with disabilities (CWDs). Despite the increasing awareness of CWDs experiencing child sexual abuse (CSA) at high rates, research in this area is still in its infancy. The current study seeks to identify, map, and thoroughly analyze the existing knowledge to better inform future research, policy, and practice. A scoping review was conducted using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, identifying 35 articles address…

Supportive, informed parenting is critical to improve outcomes of children who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Parents want to learn about their child's condition, needs, and strategies to improve family life. The internet is a valuable resource, but how parents evaluate and apply information is unknown. We conducted focus groups to understand how parents use internet resources to learn about their children with IDD. Parents described using the internet to access information from trusted sources, find examples to apply their knowledge, and seek social support. Soc

Though sex education (SE) may benefit the sexual development and overall well-being of children with intellectual disabilities (IDs), obstacles to its implementation remain. This study highlights barriers and concerns of SE for children with IDs based on their mothers' experiences. We employed a phenomenological approach and in-depth interviews with twenty Malay mothers of children with mild-to-moderate IDs or/and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Four primary hurdles to SE were discovered: (1) mother (2) children (3) family value, and (4) socio-cultural environment. Inadequate knowledge, mo

The Triangle Model of Reading proposes that phonology, orthography, and semantics are crucial to understand word reading and reading disability (RD). Morphology has been added as a binding agent to this model. However, it is unclear how these variables relate to word reading in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or comorbid ADHD and RD (ADHD+RD). This study examined the performance of Chinese children with RD, ADHD, or ADHD+RD in phonology, orthography, semantics, and morphology, and investigated whether morphology made an additional contribution beyond the other ski

BACKGROUND: Children with intellectual and developmental difficulties often experience sleep problems, which in turn may impact parental sleep patterns. This study explored the role of parental sleep knowledge as a moderator on the relationship between child sleep and parental sleep impairment.
METHODS: 582 parents or caregivers (92.6% mothers) of children with different developmental disabilities (Age M = 9.34, 29.5% females) such as Down's syndrome, participated in an online survey. Multiple regression analysis was conducted.
RESULTS: Parental sleep knowledge of child sleep was a moderatin
