Choroid plexus carcinoma. Case report.

Plexus-chorioideus carcinomata or malignant plexus papillomas are very rare; only few cases have been described in the literature. A further observation is added now. In a 13-year-old girl, signs of brain pressure occured two weeks before admission to a hospital. Scintigraphy and vertebral angiography showed a process in the atrium of the right lateral ventricle which was removed by temporo-parietal trephination. The tumour had the size of an apricot and a reddish colouration, it proceeded from the plexus. After-irradiation with 5 000 rad. Six years after the operation, signs of brain pressure

Pediatric atypical choroid plexus papilloma: Clinical features and diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: Atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP) is a newly introduced subtype of choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2007 and is characterized by intermediate characteristics between choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). Currently, the available data describing the clinical features of aCPP in children are limited. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of 24 pediatric patients with CPTs in our institute and focused on the clinical, radiological and histopathological features of 9 patients with aCPP. RESULTS: T

Iatrogenic breaks in Buuch's membrane in choroidal melanoma.

Three patients with choroidal melanoma have been observed to develop subretinal hemorrhages associated with their ocular examinations. One hemorrhage appears to have been caused by transillumination, while two others have occurred during radioactive phosphorus testing. Histopathology confirms defects in Bruch's membrane through which blood or tumor cells have entered the subretinal space.

Comprehensive multiomics analysis reveals distinct differences between pediatric choroid plexus papilloma and carcinoma.

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are intraventricular tumors derived from the choroid plexus epithelium and occur frequently in children. The aim of this study was to investigate the genomic and epigenomic characteristics of CPT and identify the differences between choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). We conducted multiomics analyses of 20 CPT patients including CPP and CPC. Multiomics analysis included whole-genome sequencing, whole-transcriptome sequencing, and methylation sequencing. Mutually exclusive TP53 and EPHA7 point mutations, coupled with the amplification

Necrotic choroidal melanoma with scleritis and choroidal effusion.

PURPOSE: To report a case of a choroidal melanoma that presented with painful scleritis and choroidal effusion. METHODS: Interventional case report with cytopathologic correlation. RESULTS: A 78-year-old otherwise healthy woman presented with sudden, severe painful ocular inflammation and marked injection of the right eye over a 3-day period, consistent with scleritis. Upon referral, 360 degrees of scleral and conjunctival injection and peripheral choroidal effusion were found. In addition, a solid hemorrhagic, choroidal mass was evident, suspicious for melanoma. Fine needle aspiration biops

[Choroidal tuberculosis: reports of 3 cases].

Tuberculosis is a chronic infection with a high incidence in Morocco. Ocular involvement is rare. We report three cases of choroidal tuberculosis. Case no 1: A 24-year-old female with tuberculous meningitis, multifocal choroiditis in the right eye and choroidal granuloma in the left eye. Case no 2: A 22-year-old female with multifocal tuberculosis. The ocular examination showed a choroidal granuloma. Case no 3: A 25-year-old male with HIV infection and miliary tuberculosis. Ocular involvement consisted in a choroidal granuloma. Ocular involvement in tuberculosis is uncommon. Choroidal granulom

[Carcinomatosis of the choroid plexus: clinical case and necropsy findings].

INTRODUCTION: Carcinomas of the choroid plexus are a rare malignant variety of papillary tumours which originate in the choroid plexus. Their occurrence in adults has been questioned because of the difficulty in differentiating them from the metastases of adenocarcinomas. CLINICAL CASE AND CONCLUSIONS: We present the case of a 57 year old man with a rapidly progressive illness characterized by disorientation, behaviour changes and amnesia, progressive deterioration of the level of consciousness until he was in deep coma and died (all within one month). There was no clinical evidence of the pr

Malignant melanoma of the choroid presenting as choroidal detachment following cataract surgery.

The progression of a monocular nuclear cataract was observed for thirty-two months in an eye which was apparently otherwise normal. Three weeks after uncomplicated cataract surgery the patient presented with an apparent detachment of the choroid which enlarged dramatically within a relatively short time and which was further complicated by a retinal detachment. The subsequent development of rubeosis iridis and increased intraocular pressure suggested some other etiology. Ultrasonography revealed a malignant melanoma which was confirmed following enucleation. Transillumination of all suspected

[An error in the fluorescence angiographic diagnosis of a subretinal process (author's transl)].

A presentation is given of a malignant melanoma of the choroid of a 15-year-old girl. The tumor was erroneously considered as to be a subretinal hemorrhage produced by a choroidal rupture after an accident. A beginning melanosis bulbi resulted in the enucleation and the histological examination of the eye, which confirmed malignant melanoma of the choroid.

[Circumscribed choroidal hemangioma treated with photodynamic therapy].

CLINICAL CASE: A 45-year-old male referred with a scotoma in the left eye of 2 months' evolution. A peripapillary tumor was found, with a basal diameter of 7 mm and thickness 3.4 mm. It was diagnosed as a circumscribed choroidal hemangioma. It was decided to treat the patient using photodynamic therapy. After 4 sessions and 17 months follow-up, the patient remained asymptomatic and visual acuity was stable. There was evidence of subretinal fibrosis and no subretinal fluid was found. DISCUSSION: Photodynamic therapy is a good option for the treatment of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma given

A new inexpensive customized plaque for choroidal melanoma iodine-125 plaque therapy.

The authors have developed a new inexpensive precious metal alloy plaque for use in customized iodine-125 plaque therapy. Each plaque is formed from two flat circular gold/palladium foils which are used in dental crown work. Using a simple manual mechanism, the two forms are stamped over a customized acrylic die shaped to the dimensions of the tumor base plus a 2-mm margin. Completed plaques consist of a back wall, a 2-mm side wall, and a 1.5-mm wide lip with holes for suture placement. Advantages include: simple construction from inexpensive components, customized shape, and iodine seeds that
