We describe a simple stable isotope dilution method for accurate and precise measurement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lactate as a clinical diagnostic test. Benzodiazepines (BZDs) are widely used for treatment of anxiety and insomnia, however, this class of drugs is also commonly abused.
