A novel hybrid model to predict concomitant diseases for Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the destruction of thyroid cells through immune-mediated mechanisms involving cells and antibodies. The condition can trigger disturbances in metabolism, leading to the development of other autoimmune diseases, known as concomitant diseases. Multiple concomitant diseases may coexist in a single individual, making it challenging to diagnose and manage them effectively. This study aims to propose a novel hybrid algorithm that classifies concomitant diseases associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis based on sequences. The approach

DMs-MAFM+EfficientNet: a hybrid model for predicting dysthyroid optic neuropathy.

Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is a very common autoimmune orbital disease. Approximately 4%-8% of TAO patients will deteriorate and develop the most severe dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON). According to the current data provided by clinical experts, there is still a certain proportion of suspected DON patients who cannot be diagnosed, and the clinical evaluation has low sensitivity and specificity. There is an urgent need for an efficient and accurate method to assist physicians in identifying DON. This study proposes a hybrid deep learning model to accurately identify suspected DON

Frozen Elephant Trunk for Acute Type B Dissection Involving the Distal Arch in the Hybrid Repair Era.

BACKGROUND: Hybrid repair of complicated acute type B aortic dissection (ATBAD) with aortic arch involvement is associated with a high rate of endoleak, stroke, and retrograde aortic dissection. Optimal management of this lesion remains uncertain. In this hybrid repair era, surgical results of ATBAD with distal aortic arch involvement using a frozen elephant trunk procedure with transposition of the left subclavian artery (LSCA) to left common carotid artery (LCCA) is reported. METHODS: From April 2011 to April 2016, 53 patients with complicated ATBAD with distal aortic arch involvement under

Hybrid treatment of penetrating aortic ulcer.

Penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcer is a rare entity with poor prognosis in the setting of acute aortic syndrome. In the literature, cases like the present one, located in the aortic arch, starting with chest pain and evolving with dysphonia, are even rarer. The present report emphasizes the role played by computed tomography in the diagnosis of penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer as well as in the differentiation of this condition from other acute aortic syndromes. Additionally, the authors describe a new therapeutic approach represented by a hybrid endovascular surgical procedure for trea

[Musculoskeletal biomechanical analysis of the three-dimensional gastrocnemius and soleus muscles].

Musculoskeletal models based on multibody dynamics have been widely applied in human biomechanics research; however, conventional one-dimensional (1D) muscle models are limited in their ability to represent realistic muscle geometry and fiber architecture, resulting in restricted biomechanical predictions. Although three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) muscle models can provide more detailed mechanical information, high computational cost limits their application at the whole lower-limb scale. To address these limitations, this study develops a unilateral lower-limb musculoskeletal model

Enriched lung cancer classification approach using an optimized hybrid deep learning approach.

Lung cancer remains one of the deadliest diseases in the world and early detection is critical to enhancing survival rates. With traditional diagnostic techniques - CT scans and chest X-rays - an invasive procedure must be performed and, in some cases, it relies on expert interpretation. Whether benign or malignant, the similarities in visual characteristics of nodules leads to ambiguity and makes for a difficult case which calls for the development of automatic lung cancer classification framework such as the one we proposed, which incorporates Deep Learning (DL) methods and uses a rigourous

Anatomic attention regions via optimal anatomy modeling and recognition for DL-based image segmentation.

Organ segmentation is a crucial task in various medical imaging applications. Many deep learning models have been developed to do this, but they are slow and require a lot of computational resources. To solve this problem, attention mechanisms are used which can locate important objects of interest within medical images, allowing the model to segment them accurately even when there is noise or artifact. By paying attention to specific anatomical regions, the model becomes better at segmentation. Medical images have unique features in the form of anatomical information, which makes them differe

Multidetector Computed Tomography and Aortic Stenosis: The Emerging Potential of Bridging Morphology and Severity Grading.

Background/Objectives: Echocardiography is the reference standard for grading aortic stenosis (AS); however, it yields discordant severity estimates in up to 40% of patients. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT)-derived methods for calculating aortic valve area (AVA) may improve diagnostic concordance, but their diagnostic performance, validation against invasive hemodynamics, and the influence of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) morphology on severity grading remain insufficiently investigated. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 307 patients with normal-flow, high-gradient calcific

Nitric oxide-releasing PHEMA/polysilsesquioxane photocrosslinked hybrids.

Polymeric materials capable of releasing nitric oxide (NO) locally have potential uses in various biomedical applications. One of the main challenges in this field is obtaining materials that allow the modulation of NO release rates through the incorporation of different NO donor molecules. Herein, we describe the synthesis of materials composed of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) crosslinked by a polysilsesquioxane (PSS) network through sol-gel polymerization and photocrosslinking. Increasing the PSS content from 5 to 20 wt% led to an increase in the glass transition temperature from

Novel hybrid rigid-deformable fetal modeling for simulating the vaginal delivery within the second stage of labor.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The fetal representation as a 3D articulated body plays an essential role to describe a realistic vaginal delivery simulation. However, the current computational solutions have been oversimplified. The objective of the present work was to develop and evaluate a novel hybrid rigid-deformable modeling approach for the fetal body and then simulate its interaction with surrounding fetal soft tissues and with other maternal pelvis soft tissues during the second stage of labor. METHODS: CT scan data was used for 3D fetal skeleton reconstruction. Then, a novel hybrid rigid-

Evaluation of Treatment Protocols in Surgically Assisted Rapid Maxillary Expansion by Finite Element Analysis.

Background and Objectives: Transverse maxillary deficiency is an important maxillary anomaly that is very common in society and remains current in orthodontics. The maxillary expansion has been used in treatment for a long time. While maxillary expansion can be performed with rapid maxillary expansion in young adults, it is performed with surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) in individuals who have reached skeletal maturity. No consensus has been reached on the most successful surgical technique or the ideal appliance for treating transverse maxillary deficiency. Accordingly,

A hybrid machine learning approach to localizing the origin of ventricular tachycardia using 12-lead electrocardiograms.

BACKGROUND: Machine learning models may help localize the site of origin of ventricular tachycardia (VT) using 12-lead electrocardiograms. However, population-based models suffer from inter-subject anatomical variations within ECG data, while patient-specific models face the open challenge of what pacing data to collect for training. METHODS: This study presents and validates the first hybrid model that combines population and patient-specific machine learning for rapid "computer-guided pace-mapping". A population-based deep learning model was first trained offline to disentangle inter-subjec

The population genomics of multiple tsetse fly (Glossina fuscipes fuscipes) admixture zones in Uganda.

Understanding the mechanisms that enforce, maintain or reverse the process of speciation is an important challenge in evolutionary biology. This study investigates the patterns of divergence and discusses the processes that form and maintain divergent lineages of the tsetse fly Glossina fuscipes fuscipes in Uganda. We sampled 251 flies from 18 sites spanning known genetic lineages and the four admixture zones between them. We apply population genomics, hybrid zone and approximate Bayesian computation to the analysis of three types of genetic markers: 55,267 double-digest restriction site-assoc

Prediction of binding modes and affinities of 4-substituted-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzenesulfonamide inhibitors to the carbonic anhydrase receptor by docking and ONIOM calculations.

Inhibition activities of a series of 4-substituted-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzenesulfonamides against the human carbonic anhydrase II (HCAII) enzyme have been explored by employing molecular docking and hybrid QM/MM methods. The docking protocol has been employed to assess the best pose of each ligand in the active site cavity of the enzyme, and probe the interactions with the amino acid residues. The docking calculations reveal that the inhibitor binds to the catalytic Zn(2+) site through the deprotonated sulfonamide nitrogen atom by making several hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions with
