During the last 5 years non-inflatable penile prostheses were implanted in 37 patients with spinal cord injury. Operation was done to provide adequate stability of the penis in order to hold an external urinary device, to help erectile impotence and to make self-catheterisation easier. A pair of Shirai-type silicone penile implants were inserted into the corpora cavernosa through a dorsal skin incision at the penile base. In 37 patients 33 had excellent results. Forty seven women food handlers who were considered to be at high risk of HIV infection in Thika town of Central Province of Kenya were studied. The women were interviewed individually for information related to their social characteristics and sexual behaviour. The study showed that 91% were bar attendants, 58% had less than 7 years of formal education and 95% were either unmarried or divorced. All the women had at least one child. Our objective was to determine factors associated with sexual problems in a sample of HIV-seropositive gay male clinic patients. Using a cross-sectional survey design a volunteer sample of 78 outpatient HIV-seropositive gay male service users completed a self-report questionnaire. This examined sexual problems, their perceived causes and associated factors including demographics, health status, sexual behaviour, self-justifications for sexual risk-taking and mood state (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). Data were collected from 112 sexually active adolescents incarcerated in a juvenile detention facility to identify predictors of consistent use of condoms during sexual intercourse. Adolescents completed an anonymous epidemiologic survey instrument developed by the Centers for Disease Control. The self-report survey assessed demographic, psychosocial, and behavioral factors. The authors examine respondents' potential reactions to the suggestion of condom usage by and to their sex partner. Results indicate that when a sex partner suggests condom use, individuals may react with a feeling of shared responsibility and/or look favorably upon the suggesting partner. In contrast, persons who suggest condom usage may be questioning their partner's past and envisioning a short-term relationship. The effects of individual-difference variables on feelings about condom usage are described and implications for marketing are delineated.

High rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) were recorded among 235 homosexually active men at the start of a prospective follow-up study in June 1983 in Finland.
