The relevance of outcome expectations in group hypnosis for stress reduction: a secondary analysis of a multicenter randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: There is evidence that patients' positive outcome expectations prior to study interventions are associated with better treatment outcomes. Nevertheless, to date, only few studies have investigated whether individual outcome expectations affect treatment outcomes in hypnosis. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether outcome expectations to hypnosis prior to starting treatment were able to predict perceived stress, as measured on a visual analog scale (VAS), after 5 weeks. METHODS: We performed a secondary data analysis of a multicenter randomized controlled trial of intervention group partic

Protocol for a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a telehealth group intervention to reduce perinatal depressive symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Perinatal depression and anxiety (PDA) affect approximately 20 % of individuals and are associated with adverse outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and impaired cognitive development of the child. Telehealth may reduce access barriers to needed mental health services. However, lack of disseminated, standardized study protocols aimed at investigating the role of telehealth in reducing PDA symptoms limits the ability to compare findings across studies. The purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual framework and a randomized controlled trial protocol (RCT) for

Effects of the online and offline hybrid continuous group care on maternal and infant health: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The group care is a well-established maternal care model that has been widely used in many developed countries, but in China, it is confined to prenatal care services. In addition, affected by traditional birth culture, Chinese women tend to focus more on their fetuses and newborns but lack attention to their own intrapartum and postpartum care. The aim of this study was to construct and implement a prenatal, intrapartum, and the postpartum continuous group care model that combines online and offline service in Hainan Province, China, and to evaluate the effect on maternal women an

Comparison of Psychopathologic Characteristics between Individuals Undergoing Methadone Maintenance Treatment, Opioid Dependents, and Control Group.

BACKGROUND: Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) can theoretically reduce the psychosocial harms of opioid dependency. The increasing number of MMT clinics in Iran during the last two decades was not accompanied by a reduction in addiction rates. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare the psychopathological characteristics of individuals on MMT, opioid dependents, and a control group in the Iranian population. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Mashhad to evaluate the psychopathological profile of 99 participants (33 opioid-dependent individuals [ODI], 33 MMT client

Enthalpy-Controlled Insertion of a "Nonspectator" Tricoordinate Phosphorus Ligand into Group 10 Transition Metal-Carbon Bonds.

Insertion of a tricoordinate phosphorus ligand into late metal-carbon bonds is reported. Metalation of a P^P-chelating ligand (L1), composed of a nontrigonal phosphorous (i.e., P(III)) triamide moiety, P(N(o-N(Ar)C6H4)2, tethered by a phenylene linker to a -PiPr2 anchor, with group 10 complexes L2M(Me)Cl (M = Ni, Pd) results in insertion of the nontrigonal phosphorus site into the metal-methyl bond. The stable methylmetallophosphorane compounds thus formed are characterized spectroscopically and crystallographically. Metalation of L1 with (cod)PtII(Me)(Cl) does not lead to a metallophosphorane

Assessment of control strategies against Clonorchis sinensis infection based on a multi-group dynamic transmission model.

Clonorchiasis is one of the most important food-borne trematodiases affecting millions of people. Strategies were recommended by different organizations and control programmes were implemented but mostly in short-time periods. It's important to assess the long-term benefits and sustainability of possible control strategies on morbidity control of the disease. We developed a multi-group transmission model to describe the dynamics of C. sinensis transmission among different groups of people with different raw-fish-consumption behaviors, based on which, a full model with interventions was propose

Earlier puberty in boys with type 1 diabetes mellitus compared to a simultaneously recruited group of control adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have suggested that there is an earlier age of onset of puberty in healthy boys. However, no study has determined the age of pubertal development in boys with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and compared the results with a simultaneously recruited group of healthy children. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the age of pubertal events in boys with TD1 and determine whether the duration of diabetes, metabolic control or insulin dose are associated with the age of puberty in boys with T1D. METHODS: Boys aged 7 to 19 years with T1D (n = 148, age 12.9 ± 3.0 years)

Rehospitalization of Postpartum Depression and Psychosis After Electroconvulsive Therapy: A Population-Based Study With a Matched Control Group.

OBJECTIVES: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is used in some cases of postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum psychosis (PPP). The risk of relapse for PPD and PPP after ECT is unknown. This study compared the relapse rate after ECT between women who had been treated for PPD and/or PPP and women who had been treated for depression and/or psychosis outside the postpartum period. METHODS: The Swedish National Quality Register for ECT and the Swedish National Patient Register were used to identify women with PPD and/or PPP who had been treated with ECT within 6 months after delivery. Advantages of expulsion-proof pins in the treatment of olecranon fractures with tension band wiring: Comparison with a control group.

INTRODUCTION: Tension band wiring is considered the standard treatment for transverse olecranon fractures. Its main complications are pin migration and discomfort caused by the hardware. We have designed and used "expulsion-proof" pins (EPP) that are shaped to prevent migration and reduce discomfort. This study compared the complication rate between our device and Kirschner pins (controls). HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesised that EPP would have lower migration rates and fewer complications than standard Kirschner pins. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective, single-center, multi-operator, observ

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Group Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Veterans Diagnosed With Chronic Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

Relative to advances in the literature that have examined individual treatment approaches for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), scientific knowledge about group treatment approaches has lagged, resulting in no currently available group treatment for PTSD despite the frequency with which this format is used. Our goal was to build upon the existing literature by examining the efficacy of a group cognitive-behavioral treatment (GCBT) for PTSD relative to group present-centered treatment (GPCT). The sample consisted of 198 male veterans with PTSD who were recruited at two Department of Veteran

The Neurocognitive and MRI Outcomes of West Nile Virus Infection: Preliminary Analysis Using an External Control Group.

To understand the long-term neurological outcomes resultant of West Nile virus (WNV) infection, participants from a previously established, prospective WNV cohort were invited to take part in a comprehensive neurologic and neurocognitive examination. Those with an abnormal exam finding were invited for MRI to evaluate cortical thinning and regional brain atrophy following infection. Correlations of presenting clinical syndrome with neurologic and neurocognitive dysfunctions were evaluated, as well as correlations of neurocognitive outcomes with MRI results. From 2002 to 2012, a total of 262 pa
