Modelling cardiovascular disease is at the forefront of efforts to use computational tools to assist in the analysis and forecasting of an individual's state of health. To build trust in such tools, it is crucial to understand how different approaches perform when applied to a nominally identical scenario, both singularly and across a population. To examine such differences, we have studied the flow in aneurysms located on the internal carotid artery and middle cerebral artery using the commercial solver Ansys CFX and the open-source code HemeLB. This comparison evaluates both the algorithmic

BACKGROUND: Fewer than 200 cases of diaphragmatic tumors have been reported in the past century. Diaphragmatic hemangiomas are extremely rare. Only nine cases have been reported in English literature to date. We report a case of cavernous hemangioma arising from the diaphragm. Pre-operative three-dimensional (3D) simulation and minimal invasive thoracoscopic excision were performed successfully, and we describe the radiologic findings and the surgical procedure in the following article.
CASE SUMMARY: A 40-year-old man was referred for further examination of a mass over the right basal lung wi

Accurate staging and restaging of primary tumour and mediastinal nodes in patients with lung cancer is of significant importance. For primary tumours, computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest are recommended. Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging should be used in patients with curative intent treatment to evaluate metastatic disease. Diagnosis of the primary tumour should be performed using bronchoscopy or CT-guided transthoracic needle aspiration. In patients with enlarged mediastinal nodes and no distant metastasis, invasive staging of the mediastinum is required. For suspicious N2

New spatial molecular technologies are poised to transform our understanding and treatment of urological cancers. By mapping the spatial molecular architecture of tumours, these platforms uncover the complex heterogeneity within and around individual malignancies, offering novel insights into disease development, progression, diagnosis, and treatment. They enable tracking of clonal phylogenetics in situ and immune-cell interactions in the tumour microenvironment. A whole transcriptome/genome/proteome-level spatial analysis is hypothesis generating, particularly in the areas of risk stratificat

PURPOSE: Spring-assisted cranioplasty is performed to correct the long and narrow head shape of children with sagittal synostosis. Such corrective surgery involves osteotomies and the placement of spring-like distractors, which gradually expand to widen the skull until removal about 4 months later. Due to its dynamic nature, associations between surgical parameters and post-operative 3D head shape features are difficult to comprehend. The current study aimed at applying population-based statistical shape modelling to gain insight into how the choice of surgical parameters such as craniotomy si

Anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (AAOCA) is a rare congenital anomaly with a large spectrum of anatomical variations. Selective engagement of an AAOCA can present challenges during cardiac catheterization. A comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of major AAOCA can effectively assist operators for selecting and maneuvering catheters. This review outlines the recommended catheter manipulations based on the site of ectopic coronary origin. Identifying the initial course (prepulmonic, subpulmonic, interarterial or retroaortic course) is crucial for classifying each AAOCA.
