Renewable elastic wood holds great potential to replace petroleum-based elastomers and supports a low-carbon circular economy, yet current research has remained largely focused on specific tree species, such as balsa, while fast-growing domestic species have been largely unexplored. Here, this study demonstrated a green and efficient strategy for preparing elastic and conductive wood using fast-growing Paulownia, through microwave puffing-assisted deep eutectic solvents (DES) treatment. Compared to conventional delignification methods, which mostly require at least 12 h and use corrosive chemi…

In this study, a simple, pH-controlled, and natural deep eutectic solvent-based microextraction (NADES-ME) procedure is proposed before the spectrophotometric analysis of methylmercury (MeHg) and total mercury in fish and environmental waters. The method is based on charge-transfer sensitive ion-pair formation between MeHg and 3-(dimethylamino)-7-(methylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium chloride (Azure B - AzB) in the presence of chelating citrate-phosphate buffer at pH 6.0, and then extraction of the formed ion-pair complex with the NADES. The important variables affecting extraction efficiency were e

BACKGROUND: Harpadon nehereus is a high-protein marine fish. A valuable way to add value to H. nehereus is to convert it into protein hydrolysate. The Maillard reaction is an effective way to improve the functional properties of peptides and proteins, which are affected by many factors such as reactant concentration, water activity, pH, temperature, and heating time. However, the traditional Maillard reaction method is inefficient. The purpose of this study was therefore to explore the effect of the ultrasound-assisted wet heating method on the Maillard reaction of H. nehereus protein hydrolys

Curcumin is a hydrophobic bioactive compound with limited oral applicability due to its poor water solubility and low stability. In this study, high-amylose maize starch (HAMS)-containing hydrogel beads were developed for the encapsulation of curcumin-loaded natural deep eutectic solvent (CLDES). Sodium alginate (SA) formed an ionically crosslinked hydrogel matrix through Ca2+-induced gelation, while HAMS contributed to additional physical associations within the hydrogel system. The hydrogel beads showed HAMS-content-dependent differences in their structural properties. The average bead diame

Membrane-bound polyphenol oxidase (mPPO) presents significant challenges for fine purification due to its inherently amphiphilic properties and its propensity to adhere to membranes. This study evaluated deep eutectic solvents (DES) as replacements for t-butanol in three-phase partitioning (TPP) for the purification of tea mPPO. The results indicated that DES-5 (menthol/octanoic acid) was the most effective alternative solvent. Optimization experiments revealed that using (NH4)2SO4 at 47%, DES: crude extract 2:1 (v/v), extraction time of 75 min, and a temperature of 30 °C yielded an enzyme act…

A green and efficient deep eutectic solvent (DES)-mediated multicomponent strategy has been developed for the synthesis of spiro[naphthalene-2,5'-pyrimidine]-4-carbonitriles. This protocol utilizes a biodegradable choline chloride/urea (1 : 2) DES as a sustainable reaction medium, and offers a good yield of targeted products (67-93%), broad substrate scope and high atom economy, while eliminating volatile organic solvents and harsh conditions. The DES can be easily recovered and reused for multiple cycles with minimal loss of efficiency. With operational simplicity, straightforward isolation a

This study proposes a novel analytical approach coupling of natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) extraction with a precolumn-switching high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) system for analyzing fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) in diverse sample matrices. NADES (coumarin/thymol) provide a green alternative to conventional solvents. The automated precolumn-switching strategy overcomes the compatibility issues between DES and HPLC, preventing column contamination and maintaining separation efficiency without the need for extensive dilution of NADES prio

Developing efficient visible-light photocatalysts remains challenging for solar fuels and pollution remediation. Here, a thiourea-choline chloride deep eutectic solvent was adopted to synthesize a series of BiOCl-XTU photocatalysts with Bi-S interfacial coordination bonds through coprecipitation. Surface-anchored thiourea creates steric hindrance to miniaturize BiOCl nanoparticles and boost surface area. Its polar resonance forms Bi-S bonds, substituting oxygen vacancies, narrowing the 2.15 eV band gap, extending visible absorption, and introducing defects to suppress charge recombination. Ben

This study developed a deep eutectic solvent-based emulsive liquid-liquid microextraction method combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (DES-ELLME-HPLC) for the detection of triazine herbicides. The technique was validated for food sample detection. Hydrophobic DES was prepared by using tributylphosphine oxide and octanoic acid to replace toxic solvents. In ELLME, the prepared DES was mixed with distilled water and then added to samples for emulsification. During the emulsion, triazine herbicides are transferred from the sample to the extractant. The limit of detection was 0.008
