Serum proteomic analysis reveals potential serum biomarkers for occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis caused by trichloroethylene.

Trichloroethylene (TCE) is an industrial solvent with widespread occupational exposure and also a major environmental contaminant. Occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis induced by trichloroethylene (OMLDT) is an autoimmune disease and it has become one major hazard in China. In this study, sera from 3 healthy controls and 3 OMLDT patients at different disease stages were used for a screening study by 2D-DIGE and MALDI-TOF-MS/MS. Eight proteins including transthyretin (TTR), retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), haptoglobin, clusterin, serum amyloid A protein (SAA), apolipoprotein A-I, apolipo

Matching evaluation between occupational contact dermatitis and various jobs in Yazd in during 2007-2012.

Skin disorders comprise more than 35% of all occupationally related diseases. 90-95% of work-related dermatoses are contact dermatitis. Effects of occupational dermatitis in the lives of workers are substantial. To plan any preventive program we need basic statistics of the problem, that we had no reliable one which includes a lot of industries in Iran. Therefore we decided to determine occupational contact dermatitis, and it's subtypes prevalence in various jobs. The objective of this study is determination of occupational contact dermatitis, and it's subtypes prevalence and comparison among

A positive cobalt spot test falsely indicating an occupational allergic contact dermatitis caused by cobalt.

BACKGROUND: For investigation of chemical exposure in allergic individuals, spot tests are invaluable. A reagent may react with a specific compound to give a specific typical colour, and thus indicate the presence of the specific substance. Spot tests can give both false-negative and false-positive reactions. To confirm the presence of the substance and quantify it, more sophisticated methods are required. On the basis of a positive cobalt spot test result, a woman was initially diagnosed with an occupational allergic contact dermatitis caused by cobalt. OBJECTIVES: To investigate cobalt rele

[Prevalence of atopic conditions in patients with occupational contact allergic dermatitis: comparison between diagnostic tool].

BACKGROUND: Occupational allergic contact dermatitis (OACD), to which atopy contributes to a as yet unspecified degree, accounts for a considerable number of work-related diseases. OBJECTIVES: We studied the prevalence of atopy in OACD patients. We also compared the ability of prick tests and specific IgE assays to detect it. METHODS: In 329 patients diagnosed with OACD at the Occupational Medicine Unit of Cagliari University Hospital between 2000 and 2009, we aimed at detecting atopic conditions with prick tests and IgE assays specific for allergens most frequently responsible for atopic re

Toxic epidermal necrolysis following allergic contact dermatitis caused by occupational exposure to ultraviolet-cured inks.

Erythema multiforme is a relatively common skin disorder; the most common cause is herpes simplex infection, but topical sensitivities reportedly also provoke this reaction. We report here a case that progressed to toxic epidermal necrolysis due to contact with ultraviolet (UV)-cured inks. The diagnosis was confirmed by patch tests to acrylates in the UV-cured inks, histopathological studies of the lesions, and positive patch test to 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate.

Occupational allergic contact dermatitis from N,N-methylene-bis-5-methyl-oxazolidine in coolant oils.

Contact with metal working fluids (MWF) is an important factor in the development of occupational hand dermatitis in patients working in the metal processing industry. Biocides are added to MWF as preservatives and are known sensitizers. We analysed 318 patch test reactions to N,N-methylene-bis-5-methyl-oxazolidine 1% in petrolatum (5-methyloxazolidine, Grotan OX, CAS no. 66204-44-2, a formaldehyde releasing biocide) present in coolant oils in patients exposed to MWF and with suspected occupational dermatitis (OD). Positive allergic reactions were noted in 15 (4.7%) cases. In 7 (47%) cases, we

Occupational dermatitis related to chromium and cobalt: experience of dermatologists (EPIDERM) and occupational physicians (OPRA) in the U.K. over an 11-year period (1993-2004).

BACKGROUND: Chromium and cobalt (and their compounds) are well recognized as being important causes of occupational contact dermatitis (OCD), particularly of the hands, although their exact contribution to occupational hand dermatitis varies between different studies. In some European studies, cases of chromium-related dermatitis have decreased following the addition of ferrous sulphate to cement to reduce the amount of available chromium. OBJECTIVES: To examine, using data from the U.K. occupational skin surveillance schemes, the proportionate reported incidence and changing trends in OCD co

Incidence and prevalence of occupational contact dermatitis in hairdressing apprentices: A 3-year prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: It is known that a large number of hairdressing apprentices (HA) develop occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) during schooling, but studies that address prevalence of contact sensitization in HAs with hand eczema are missing. OBJECTIVES: To assess the prevalence, incidence rate and clinical characteristics of OCD, including contact sensitization, in a sample of Croatian HAs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 408 HAs from 25 Croatian towns were examined at the beginning of education and monitored at the end of each school year. Clinical evaluation of skin changes was performed us

Incidence rates of occupational contact dermatitis in Denmark between 2007 and 2018: A population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Recent population-based studies on the incidence rates (IRs) of occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) are sparse. OBJECTIVES: To determine the IRs of OCD and development thereof between 2007 and 2018 in known risk occupations. METHODS: Data on all recognized cases of OCD were used to calculate IRs as the number of recognized OCD cases per 10 000 workers per year. Asymptotic chi-square test was used to compare the IRs between 2007-2012 and 2013-2018. RESULTS: The median age at notification of OCD was below 30 years for several of the examined occupations. Hairdressers and beautic
