Longitudinal effect of early social media use on standardized learning outcomes during school career.

This study uses difference-in-differences models to evaluate the impact of early social media use on academic performance among children aged 7-16 years. A dataset comprising 5,227 students from northern Italy was constructed by merging data from a questionnaire on lifetime digital media habits with longitudinal standardized test scores in Italian, English and mathematics. Participants who created a personal social media account in 6th, 7th or 8th grade were separately matched with late adopters who initiated their first social media account in the 9th grade or later. The findings provide comp…

Trace of the tracer: Techno-solutionism, surveillance and the ambivalent experiences of digital health in Türkiye's COVID-19 response.

This study examines how digital health technologies were implemented in pandemic response, based on interviews and focus groups with frontline health workers in Türkiye. While the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital tools as essential solutions for crisis management, the findings reveal a more ambivalent reality.Digital systems improved coordination, replaced paper-based chaotic workflows, and enabled real-time data sharing. However, their effectiveness was constrained by infrastructural shortcomings, uneven digital skills, and misalignment with field conditions. Digitalisati

Digital crowdsourced intervention to promote HIV testing among MSM in China: study protocol for a cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are an important HIV key population in China. However, HIV testing rates among MSM remain suboptimal. Digital crowdsourced media interventions may be a useful tool to reach this marginalized population. We define digital crowdsourced media as using social media, mobile phone applications, Internet, or other digital approaches to disseminate messages developed from crowdsourcing contests. The proposed cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) study aims to assess the effectiveness of a digital crowdsourced intervention to increase HIV testing uptake a

[Sialography with digital image processing screens].

We recorded 45 sialograms on digital screens and discuss the use of a digital recording, processing and screening system for the diagnosis of inflammation, tumours and stones of the major salivary glands. Thirty-three investigations of a total of 33 parotid sialograms and 12 submandibular sialograms were analysed. A ductal examination with small volumes of soluble contrast media, permitting painless examination, was possible in all cases due to excellent homogeneous optical density, satisfactory detail and good contrast.

Digital patient decision aids for cancer prevention in socially disadvantaged women: A scoping review protocol.

This scoping review aims to map and analyze the existing evidence on digital Patient Decision Aids (PtDAs) for cancer prevention targeting socially disadvantaged women. Cancer is a leading cause of premature mortality among women. Cancer prevention strategies can effectively reduce cancer incidence and mortality. Socially disadvantaged women face lower screening rates and higher mortality. Effective cancer prevention requires informed decision-making. One approach is the use of digital PtDAs. They represent a promising innovation for this population. However, their characteristics, development

Moderators of design and delivery component effects on engagement with a digital parenting intervention: evidence from a factorial randomized trial in Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Digital health interventions are rapidly expanding in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), yet little is known about how design and delivery components can be tailored to support engagement across diverse populations. Addressing this gap is critical for effective and equitable implementation. PURPOSE: This study used a factorial experiment, embedded within the Optimization Phase of the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST), to examine whether caregiver characteristics moderated the effects of design and delivery components on engagement with an app-based parenting intervent

Stage-Based Model of User Engagement Patterns in an Online Health Community for Cardiovascular Disease Management: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: Online health communities (OHCs) provide vital peer support and health information to individuals managing chronic conditions. However, sustained user engagement remains challenging, with many users reducing activity over time despite the ongoing benefits these platforms offer. While some individuals may improve or become more knowledgeable, sustained engagement remains critical because ongoing participation fosters trust, peer support, and continuous access to evolving health information that may persist beyond initial recovery or learning. Hence, it is important to consider how c

Examining the Roles of Technology Across the Health Care Journey for Individuals With Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: As digital technologies become increasingly embedded in daily life, their roles in mental health care have expanded and diversified. Digital tools are being explored as interventions for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) across the care continuum, including symptom recognition, access to care, treatment, and self-management. However, there is limited empirical understanding of how individuals living with OCD use digital technologies in situ to navigate their health care journeys or how they envision technology shaping future models of care. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore

Social Media Use and Health: What We Have Known So Far, and What We Need to Investigate in the Future.

This review examines the evolving relationship between social media use and health from the perspective of the World Health Organization (WHO), which defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Drawing on recent empirical findings and systematic reviews, this paper synthesizes current evidence regarding how social media use relates to the three dimensions of health and may facilitate the spread of health misinformation. As social media has become deeply integrated into daily life, understanding these dynamics is increasingly important for developing evidence-
