PURPOSE: Pachychoroid spectrum disease encompasses a set of macular disorders secondary to an abnormally thick choroid. However, the pathological process underlying pachychoroid spectrum disease and its overlap with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remain unclear. This review aimed to understand the underlying pathology, classification, and phenotypes of pachychoroid spectrum disease.
METHODS: This comprehensive literature review was performed based on a search of peer-reviewed published papers relevant to the current knowledge of pachychoroid disease spectrum.
RESULTS: Pachychoroid is

An 18-month-old Angus bull presented to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine for a routine breeding soundness evaluation and lameness evaluation. He was classified as deferred potential breeder due to a lameness and was donated to the university. Following treatment, the bull's lameness resolved. He passed the breeding soundness examination in accordance with the Society for Theriogenology standards. However, avascular dilated areas at the level of the mediastinum testis of the right testicle were detected via Doppler ultrasonography. A high level of vascularity is routinely seen w

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) of the oesophagus is a rare complication of solid organ transplant that requires a high index of suspicion to diagnose. A literature review conducted on Ovid Medline database retrieved 24 articles, among which five previous cases of oesophageal PTLD were identified. Development of oesophageal strictures related to PTLD has not been reported in the literature. We report a case of oesophageal PTLD following lung transplant, presenting with extensive, circumferential ulceration in the oesophagus. PTLD was successfully treated with chemotherapy b

Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of ectatic corneal disease have mandated a more modern staging system. The new Belin ABCD keratoconus staging system incorporates anterior and posterior curvature centered on the thinnest point of the cornea, thinnest pachymetry values and distance visual acuity in grades from 0-4. By including posterior curvature and thickness measurements based on the thinnest point, as opposed to apical, the new staging system better reflects anatomical changes seen in keratoconus and other ectatic diseases.

BACKGROUND: Subglottic stenosis is a frequent complication of endotracheal intubation in children and can create a difficult airway situation for subsequent respiratory illnesses. Difficult airway algorithms are an essential aid when dealing with respiratory failure in clinical situations where ventilation or intubation is unsuccessful.
CASE REPORT: A 4-month-old infant with a history of previous endotracheal intubation required endotracheal intubation for stridor and respiratory failure due to croup. There was difficulty intubating the trachea due to severe subglottic stenosis that developed

BACKGROUND: In December 2014, Nguyen et al. introduced the Upper Tract Dilation (UTD) classification scheme, hoping to unify multiple disciplines when describing ultrasound imaging of congenital hydronephrosis. We hypothesized that the academic community has been slow to adopt its use in publications.
PRIMARY AIM: To evaluate which hydronephrosis grading systems were currently preferred in publications.
STUDY DESIGN: A PubMed® search for hydronephrosis was performed, and abstracts between May 2017 and May 2019 were reviewed. The following data points were collected from the 197 manuscripts m

BACKGROUND: Proximal aortic dilatation is frequently associated with aortic valve pathology. The treatment of mild to moderate proximal aortic dilatation (maximal diameter: 40-50 mm) at the time of aortic valve replacement (AVR) is still controversial. We retrospectively analyzed the fate and progression of the proximal dilated aorta after isolated AVR in tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) patients, to determine if ascending aortic replacement (AAR) is recommended at the time of the initial AVR.
METHODS: The review of our hospital database revealed a subgroup of 127 TAV disease patients with mild t

Optimal surgical strategy for secondary tricuspid regurgitation is still under discussion. First of all, this is due to rare organic disease of tricuspid valve and tricuspid regurgitation is almost always classified as secondary insufficiency. Fibrous annulus enlargement of tricuspid valve is the most common cause of tricuspid regurgitation. Annular dilatation may by the result of left ventricular failure due to myocardial or valvular diseases, right ventricular enlargement, pressure or volume overload. No surgical correction of tricuspid insufficiency during cardiac surgery for other leading

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the clinical manifestations, MRI appearance, and management of tumefactive Virchow-Robin spaces (VRs).
METHODS: A systematic MEDLINE literature search was performed. Data were extracted per tumefactive VRs location (type 1: along lenticulostriate arteries entering the basal ganglia; type 2: along perforating medullary arteries; type 3: mesencephalothalamic region; and other locations).
RESULTS: Ninety-nine articles were included, comprising 164 patients. There were few reports on type 1 tumefactive VRs (n = 5 patients) and tumefactive VRs at other location

Bloody discharge from the nipple (thelorrhagia) is a rare symptom in childhood and is a cause of great concern due to the association with carcinoma in adults. The most common cause in children is mammary duct ectasia, which is a benign and self-limiting condition. It is characterized by dilatation of the mammary ducts, fibrosis and periductal inflammation. The etiology has not been identified and is multifactorial. Up to date, only isolated case reports have been published. Therefore, we present a review of the literature and we report a case of a fivemonth- old male infant that resolves spon

Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is a rare placental malformation of as yet undetermined etiology. We report a single center's experience of this diagnosis and present an estimation of the population incidence. Within our institution, all placentae are examined within a pathology department that provides a dedicated perinatal service. In this study, we evaluated the incidence of PMD over a period of 18 years following the description and recognition of PMD as a pathological diagnosis. During the period 1991-2009, only two cases were identified amongst over 95 000 deliveries at our institu

Intradiploic meningioma of the orbital roof is a type of intraosseous meningioma. It is very rare in children, and only 7 cases have been reported in the pediatric age group. We report a case of a 14-year-old female who presented with progressive exophthalmos, diplopia and pain involving the right eye. Computed tomography (CT) scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intradiploic orbital roof tumor with diploe expansion and pneumosinus dilatans. The tumor was completely removed surgically. The histopathological diagnosis was transitional meningioma. The clinical and radiological f
