Identification of mild cognitive impairment using multimodal 3D imaging data and graph convolutional networks.

Objective.Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a precursor stage of dementia characterized by mild cognitive decline in one or more cognitive domains, without meeting the criteria for dementia. MCI is considered a prodromal form of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Early identification of MCI is crucial for both intervention and prevention of AD. To accurately identify MCI, a novel multimodal 3D imaging data integration graph convolutional network (GCN) model is designed in this paper.Approach.The proposed model utilizes 3D-VGGNet to extract three-dimensional features from multimodal imaging data (such

Machine learning-based modeling for monitoring and predicting the detection rate and severity of pathogenic microorganisms in seafood.

Pathogenic microbial contamination in seafood presents persistent risks to food safety and public health. Conventional monitoring methods frequently lack adequate sensitivity and specificity, particularly under dynamic environmental conditions. To address these limitations, this study developed a machine learning (ML) framework utilizing microbial testing data from seafood samples collected in Yantai, China (2014-2024), with 2025 data reserved for external validation. The framework simultaneously predicts pathogen prevalence and severity levels. And, exploratory data analysis assessed variable

[Current status and progress of staging and efficacy evaluation of marginal zone lymphoma].

Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) is characterized by high clinical heterogeneity, making individualized precision therapy highly contingent upon accurate staging and dynamic response assessment. This review systematically summarizes the current status and progress in the evaluation of splenic MZL (SMZL), mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, and nodal MZL (NMZL). In terms of staging modalities, selection should be based on subtype-specific characteristics; notably, as a novel radiotracer, 68Ga-Pentixafor positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) provides crucial comple

Clinical presentation of Enterovirus D68 in adults with acute respiratory infections consulting in emergency departments in Quebec, Canada.

OBJECTIVES: Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) is mainly studied in children, while data in adults are limited. We described the clinical presentation … er tested with EV-D68-specific polymerase chain reaction assays. We calculated the Pandemic Medical Early Warning Score (PMEWS) to assess severity. RESULTS: Of 155 (14%) EV/RV samples, 19 (12%) were EV-D68 and occurred from July to October, 2022. Patients with EV-D68 more frequently lived with other people (100% vs 73%, P = 0.02) and tended to have more underlying c …

The Protective Effect of MEWS-based Graded Nursing on the Life Safety of Car Accident Patients.

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the improvement effect of modified early warning score (MEWS)-based on graded nursing (different levels of care are given according to the assessment of the severity, seriousness, urgency and self-care ability of the patient) on the outcome and quality of life (QoL) of emergency car accident patients. METHODS: A prospective non-randomized controlled trial was conducted on 103 emergency car accident patients admitted between May 2020 and May 2021. Among them, 57 patients received MEWS-based graded nursing and were regarded as the research group (RG), while the other 4…

Dynamic risk prediction of physical fitness failure in college students: a four-year longitudinal landmark supermodel study.

PURPOSE: To develop and validate a dynamic risk prediction model (Landmark Supermodel) for identifying college students at risk of physical fitness failure by senior year, and to determine the optimal intervention window through sequential risk updating. METHODS: A total of 4,006 college students (2,745 males; 1,261 females) with four-year longitudinal physical fitness test data were included. Ten physical fitness indicators were assessed annually. Sex-stratified Landmark Supermodels were constructed at three landmark time points using Random Forest and XGBoost classifiers with 57 engineered

Panic Attack Prediction for Patients With Panic Disorder via Machine Learning and Wearable Electrocardiography Monitoring: Model Development and Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: Panic attack prediction remains a critical challenge in mental health care due to the high interindividual variability of physiological responses and the limitations of subjective psychological assessments. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop a multimodal deep learning framework that integrates real-time physiological signals from wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors and psychological assessments to improve the accuracy of panic attack prediction. METHODS: We adapted the ConvNetQuake architecture, originally designed for seismic detection, to extract temporal patterns from

Quantifying the kinetics of hematocrit and platelet count during febrile phase to develop a scoring system for predicting dengue shock syndrome in adults: A matched case - control study from a Hospital in Viet Nam.

INTRODUCTION: Early prediction of dengue shock syndrome (DSS) is crucial for effective patient triage and management. However, the lack of consensus regarding the precise definition of the laboratory warning sign (WS) -"an increase in hematocrit concurrent with a rapid decrease in platelet count"- has made it difficult to utilize this WS for predicting DSS. METHODS: A matched case - control study was conducted among adult dengue patients (aged ≥16 years) hospitalized within the first four days of illness between November 2022 and August 2023, with each DSS case was matched with three non-DSS

Evaluation of Candida colonization and use of the Candida Colonization Index in a paediatric Intensive Care Unit: a prospective observational study.

Invasive candidiasis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, which primarily occurs in intensive care units. The Candida colonization index is an accepted score as an early warning tool for invasive candidiasis. This study was performed in a medical PICU with patients prone to contracting invasive candidiasis, to determine the usefulness of the Candida colonization index in forecasting invasive candidiasis in children. This prospective study including 87 patients (children 1 month to 16 years old with several illnesses and requiring ICU care) was conducted in a 22-bed medical PICU, H

Technical considerations for evaluating clinical prediction indices: a case study for predicting code blue events with MEWS.

Objective. There have been many efforts to develop tools predictive of health deterioration in hospitalized patients, but comprehensive evaluation of their predictive ability is often lacking to guide implementation in clinical practice. In this work, we propose new techniques and metrics for evaluating the performance of predictive alert algorithms and illustrate the advantage of capturing the timeliness and the clinical burden of alerts through the example of the modified early warning score (MEWS) applied to the prediction of in-hospital code blue events.Approach. Different implementations o…

Long-term outcome analysis of endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic sinusitis.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine long-term subjective outcome of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for chronic sinusitis (CS) and to evaluate prognostic indicators for surgical treatment failure. METHODS: This is a prospective study of patients who underwent ESS for CS. Symptom assessment was performed using a visual analog scale at a pretreatment interview and then at regular intervals post-ESS for up to a 3-year period. The indicators for symptom scoring were nasal obstruction, facial pain, postnasal drip, anterior discharge, and anosmia/hyposmia. RESULTS: Data analysis

Factors Associated with Active Tuberculosis Disease in Patients with Lung Cancer Following Immune Checkpoint Blockade Therapy: A Retrospective Cohort Study and Case Reports.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized lung cancer treatment by improving survival in patients with advanced disease and expanding treatment options for patients with early-stage disease. However, ICIs may increase the risk of active tuberculosis (TB) disease. Our study investigated potential warning markers for active TB disease in patients with lung cancer receiving ICIs, aiming to inform management strategies. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study at Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University reviewed 4157 solid tumor patients treated with ICIs from January 2021 to
