Some economic effects of trypanosomiasis in goats.

A study into the economic effects of trypanosomiasis was carried out using three goat breeds at the south coast of Kenya. The economic losses were worked out by comparing the performance of the goat groups receiving Samorin on a monthly basis with that of goat groups not receiving any Samorin. The losses were based on quantities of weight lost through deaths and that not produced as a result of the disease. The groups of goats were exposed to natural trypanosomal challenge. The losses in KSh per Tropical Livestock Unit within six months of the study were 198.07 for the East African goats, 501.

[Economic losses due to cysticercosis in cattle].

Based on the data collected by Large Fattening Houses, economic consequences of cysticercosis in cattle reared on the farm Ceské Velenice (district Jindrichův Hradec) were evaluated. On this farm, a mass occurrence of cysticercosis was observed throughout the period of 1975 to 1977, a partial occurrence in 1978, as after-effect from the previous period. The number of infected bulls was calculated from the number of animals in which cysticercosis was detected in the slaughter-houses. The highest percentage of bulls suffering from cysticercosis at the time of purchase was found in 1976-69.1%; be

Economic importance of bovine fascioliasis in Nigeria.

An attempt was made to determine the annual economic losses due to bovine fascioliasis in Nigeria. The estimates were based on an average annual disease incidence of 2.5%, an assumed mortality rate of 1%, a total liver condemnation rate of 7%, a cattle population of 10 million and an annual slaughter rate of 10%. When the annual cost of treating and controlling fascioliasis amounting to N30,000 was added to other costs, total annual loss due to fascioliasis was estimated at some N5 million. The importance of fascioliasis as a major source of production loss in the animal industry in Nigeria is

An economic appraisal of helminth parasites in sheep.

The economic effects of the common helminth parasites of sheep are described and the current methods of prophylaxis adopted by sheep farmers in the United Kingdom reviewed. More efficient prophylactic programmes are outlined and the economic benefit accruing from two programmes designed to control fascioliasis and parasitic gastroenteritis are presented in detail.

Global health and economic impact of expanding the WHO essential medicines list for psoriasis: a health economic modelling study.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis affects at least 60 million people globally, but access to effective biologic treatments is limited, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This study models the incremental global health and economic impact of large-scale access expansion for adalimumab and ustekinumab biosimilars following their inclusion on the World Health Organization (WHO) Essential Medicines List (EML) for psoriasis, as recommended by the 25th WHO Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Essential Medicines. METHODS: An empirical decision-analytic health economic model was developed to

Global Disease and Economic Burden of Noncommunicable Diseases Attributable to Hepatitis B Infection: A Health Economic Evaluation Study.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a significant global public health challenge, contributing to both hepatic and extrahepatic disease burdens. This study aims to estimate the global disease and economic burden of HBV-attributable noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The study included hepatic NCDs (cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases [CCLDs] and hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC]) and nonhepatic NCDs (NHNCDs). Nine NHNCDs were identified by integrating the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2021 database cause list with narrative reviews from January 1, 2013, to May 31, 2024. The econ

An Economic Evaluation Estimating the Clinical and Economic Burden of Increased Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium Infection Incidence in Japan.

INTRODUCTION: While incidence rates of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium have remained comparatively low in Japan, there have been increasing reports of more vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) outbreaks, requiring costly measures to contain. Increased incidence of VRE in Japan may lead to more frequent and harder to contain outbreaks with current control measures, causing a significant burden to the healthcare system in Japan. This study aimed to demonstrate the clinical and economic burden of vancomycin-resistant E. faecium infections to the Japanese healthcare system and the imp

Golimumab improves socio economic and health economic parameters in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

BACKGROUND: Golimumab (GLM) has shown its efficacy and safety in various clinical trials. We aimed to assess the effect of GLM on socio economic and health economic parameters in daily clinical practice. SETTING: Rheumatology offices in Germany. METHOD: Analysis of socio economic and health economic parameters of the non-interventional, multicentre, prospective study GO-NICE. Analyses were performed in an exploratory manner using descriptive statistical methods. Further, p-values on socio economic variables were calculated based on one-sample t-test on the differences between baseline and fo

Comparative Study of Computer-Aided Designed PEEK Implants Versus Autologous Bone Flap in Cranioplasty: Clinical Efficacy and Medical Economics Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Cranial defects, often resulting from decompressive craniectomy, require timely repair to mitigate neurological risks and psychological sequelae. This study compares polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and autologous bone grafts in cranial reconstruction, focusing on clinical outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and utilization trends. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 188 patients who underwent skull repair surgery in the neurosurgery department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital)

Integration of mathematical modeling and economics approaches to evaluate strategies for control of Salmonella Dublin in a heifer-raising operation.

Salmonella Dublin infections in heifer-raising operations (HROs) cause animal health and economic losses for these operations and represent a pathogen source for dairy farms obtaining replacement heifers from HROs. To improve control of S. Dublin, we (i) developed a mathematical model of S. Dublin transmission on a HRO, (ii) evaluated the vaccine effectiveness and cleaning improvements for controlling the infection, and (iii) evaluated the influence of infection and control strategies on the HRO's operating income. We developed a modified Susceptible-Infected-Recovered-Susceptible model of S.

Effects of immersing Japanese quail eggs in various doses of riboflavin on reproductive, growth performance traits, blood indices and economics.

This investigation aimed to evaluate the impact of immersion (IM) riboflavin treatment on the hatchability, production efficiency, and carcass characteristics of Japanese quail eggs. A total of 260 eggs of Japanese quail birds were used for hatching and were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 5 replicates (13 eggs/replicate) in a fully randomized design. Hatching eggs were immersed in riboflavin for 2 min before incubation. The experiment treatments were designed as follows: G1 control group with no treatment, G2 treated with 3 g/L vit. B2 (IM), G3 treated with 4 g/L vit. B2 (IM) and G4 w
