The smaller group also had a direct measure of tracheal pressure during this behavior. The authors present a girl with typical characteristics of oral-facial-digital syndrome type II (Mohr syndrome) with a cleft soft palate and pendulous tongue nodules. Because of feeding difficulties, electromyography was performed of both morphologically identical halves of the soft palate. One half showed a normal muscle action potential and in the other half electrical silence was registered. Exploratory surgery during palatoplasty showed a fatty hamartoma in the half of the palate in which no electric potentials had been registered.

Modification of abnormal gait was attempted in real-time using a surface electromyography-based protocol to teach recruitment of the anterior tibialis at the correct time in the gait cycle. Two children diagnosed with cerebral palsy were able to learn volitional control of the anterior tibialis as demonstrated by improved clearance of the toe on the swing phase of the gait and newly learned ability to recruit and relax the anterior tibialis. The children were able to walk with the new gait pattern and reproduce the old one at will. Implications for future research in this area are discussed.

INTRODUCTION: Mild to moderate elevation of muscle creatine kinase (CK) is commonly observed in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Although the determinants of increased the CK in ALS remain uncertain, we hypothesize that fasciculations and muscle denervation can be involved by damaging the muscle fibre.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the prognostic value of preoperative electromyography (EMG) for long-term outcome in patients who undergo surgery for discal radiculalgia at the lumbar level.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty-seven patients who underwent surgery less than 6 weeks after the EMG were selected among a pool of 384 patients suffering from discal radiculalgia at the lumbar level who had had an EMG at our hospital since 1980. The pattern of small intestinal digesta transit was studied in six young pigs (20-30 kg) by simultaneous electromyography and radiology. Pigs showed migrating myoelectric complexes (m.m.c.s) in the small intestine both when fasted and after feeding.
